models in gtk but not in ET

(Trash) #1

Hm, I’m havin some sort of wierd problem here… I’ve got some models in my map like lamps en stuff like that, they do apear in GTK but not in ET. The compilers I use are :
-(signle) BSP -meta

  • (single test) -light -fast

I’ve also tried some of the more “advanced” compilers like:

  • (test) BSP -meta, -vis,-light-fast -filter and the last compiler in GTK 1.4.0
    but that gives an error:
    **ERROR
    MAX_MAP_VISIBILITY exeeded
(tis one is copied from the console in gtk)
the key for my moddels are for example
    models/mapobjects/furniture/chat_armchair.md3

can any one help me out?

do your models appear black, black/yellow or not even visible?

concerning max_map_visibility, you’ll find the following in q3map2 error messages listing:

Q. MAX_VISIBILITY_EXCEEDED
A.You may get this error when making a very large map, and although the obvious thing to
do is to downsize the map you can do other things such as use detail brushes more so the vis
data is less complicated so then the vis data wont be so large. Also dont forget to use the
caulk texture. Take into account the way the map is structurally made, it might not of given
the error because the map is huge, but because its been made poorly in that you can see
too much on screen at once and the view of whats on screen at once hasn’t been taken into
account well enough.

Models ain’t visible at all

My map isn’t 2 big and it’s pretty good caulked

Well, I wouldn’t call vis an advanced option, but I guess it’s not always necessary :). About the models, I saw this happen in a map for RTCW WildWest recently with the latest compiler. Were the models always invisible?

(Trash) #5

no, at the beginning of my map I had 2 lamps placed, and they were visibel. But after that I contiued with just the design and I putted the models in only at last. But during that period I did’t change of version in GTK. Now latest I downloaded the latest version of GTK and with those compilers I’m still having those problems…

(Gringo Starr) #6

Well, we may as well get the terminology correct. -meta -vis -light, those are compile options or switches (or at least that’s what I call them…maybe stages?). The compiler itself is the Q3map2.exe program which is run to compile the map. When you begin to compile, look at the top of that window that pops up. What version of Q3map2 are you using? I may not be able to solve the problem, but others may need to know that info in order to help you. Also, have you thoroughly searched the Q3map2 forum here? I’m sure there are loads of posts about models disappearing. I know this because I searched for that last week.

(Trash) #7

the version is
Q3Map - v1.0
Q3Map (ydnar) - v2.5.11
I’ve just checked the Q3map2 forum an after searching for a while I didn’t found anything, unless I missed a spot

I had this problem when I was making my 88. I did a bunch of test maps/compiles regarding this, by I can’t find my notes right now…

Are these misc_model or misc_gamemodel entities?

Either way, trying making them detail (select them and hit ctrl+m). Next, move the models (including the bounding box) so that they are not intruding into any structural brushes.

these are misc_gamemodel entities, I tried to make them detailed but that hasn’t got any effect ingame, they still dont show up…
