Model works... but it shouldn't

(MattMurdock) #1

Hi,
I’ve got a tree misc_model in my compiled map which works all good. Here’s the path: models/mapobjects/tree_temperate_sd/hightree1.md3
My problem is, I can’t find this model anywhere. In pak0.pk3 there is the tree_temperate_sd folder which has the following files:

leaves_temperate1.tga
leaves_temperate2.tga
leaves_temperate3.tga
trunk_temperate.tga

…but no hightree1.md3! What’s going on here? Are the md3 files hidden in the archive somehow, or am I missing something? The few md3 files i can find in pak0 are pretty much useless… im after more standard tree and shrub models like this one. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance

misc_models are baked into the BSP.

That means they dont need the .md3 file because they’re built in.

misc_gamemodels need the .md3 at run time.

the file is probably in some other maps pk3.

Der’saidin: You’re right, the model brushwork becomes part of the compiled bsp. But im sure you’ll agree that you need a source for the model in the first place. That tree model md3 exists somewhere, im just wanting to know where… it shows up in the editor camera view which means radiant can find it…
Can someone that has made a custom map using the standard models please enlighten me? :?

When you install radient it creates a models folder in etmain. Check that.

If its not in there its in a pk3 somewhere.

if you cant find them in your etmain/models/mapobjects… (ect) then
you can always download them here,

Thanks guys that link is perfect; those were the models i was after. I’ve looked everywhere and my pk3s seem to be missing 99% of the md3s… wonder if it’s something specific to do with the linux client.
Anyways cheers
