Model Lighting. Please help asap!

(Grand_Mister_P) #1

Me again, im still having lighting problems, so please, someone explain what light comes from? im got a sky box overlooking my map, so does that emit light? im getting light from somewhere, and all the character model are black, as if covered in shadow. Surely my sky box isnt also doing shadows? What does the Ambient key do in the worldspawn?

Basically i want to create an effect as if the sun was overhead and lighting my whole map, those things not in direct sunlight (eg my tunnel) will have to be lit separatley.

Ive a deadline playtest within the hour so heres my last hope! please do what you people do best!

Many thanks

P

Ok, the skybox may give off light depending on whether it is a sky shader texture or not. I wouldn’t have thought it would project shadows aswell.
To light models use lightjunior in the right-click menu (create a brush first then select lightjunior).
The ambient key, as I understand it, gives all the surfaces in the map a slight glow of light so you don’t get completely dark areas, and the shadows aren’t as sharp.
Although there is a minlight key aswell, but i don’t know how that works.

I didnt mean in game models, i meant when im actually running round with a friend he looks completely in shadow as in the character models. And im in total shadow for him, 20 mins!!!
