modding maps

hi all im new to modding maps and was woundering if there is a program that i can download that will let me mod these files (.script) as ive found some maps id like to mod but once i change the pk3 to zip to see the contenes nothing will let me mod the maps :(, ive tried sdk and GtkRadiant 1.5.0 but neither work, ive downloaded the map files i want to mod from reterntocastlewolf… all of which or maps made by other players so i no theres a way i just dont no it :frowning: :confused: :rolleyes:

well, people don’t like you editing there maps really, unless you ask for permission FIRST.

You edit maps when they have the .map extension in gtk radiant.
Once a map is compiled it is changed into a .bsp file, and thats what you find in the pk3 file.

so thats why opening bsp in gtk doesn’t work.

There is a way to decompile .bsp’s to .map’s but you’ll just have to search for it.

why don’t you just try and make something yourself, instead of editing other peoples maps?

You can change the concept of .script if you open it in wordpad or notepad :slight_smile:

the maps i want to edit or goldrush and battery, which i belive to be et maps, i just used reternto… as an example so people new what i was going on about

ty Pegazus, and to some 1 eles question what i want to change is < Goldrush make more room and hiding places < Battery have a play around and make it more fair for both teams

When you are finished with the editing, you need to compile the map, then put it into a pk3 (with all the edited files) and then into the etmain folder.

hi me again( i no pain the arse arent i :slight_smile: ) any ways ive now got bsp so i made a new file with pakskape and made it into a pk3 file and uploaded it but it doesnt show in the map list, plus i think i have gone wrong coz in the pk3 file the only file in it is the bsp 1
