[MOD]GunGame

(Miki) #1

I’m thinking of making a new mod for ET. Trough, I have no mod experience at all, I can only make maps. Anyway, the mod would be based on a Counter Strike mod. For the ones who don’t know the mod in CS, here is some more info.

You begin on a small map. In et you would spam AUTOMATIC as a soldier, you can’t choose weapons, nor class, only allied or axis. You begin with a Luger. So, everybody is holding a luger. You start running around on that small map, looking for enemies. If you can kill one enemy with your luger, you receive a colt. So it goes on and on…(I used the weapon list in NoQuarter to give an example, the (NQ) shows that the weapons are in NQ and not in ETpro.) So you spawn with these weapons (+ always a knife)

Luger
Colt
Akimbo Luger
Akimbo Colt
Thompson
MP40
Mobile MG
PF
Shotgun (NQ)
Venom (NQ)
StG44 (NQ)
Bar (NQ)
MP34(NQ)
Sten
M1 Garand
M1 Garand Scoped
M1 Garand with Rifle Nades
K43
K43 Scoped
K43 with rifle nades
FG42 Scoped
Allied Nade
Axis Nade
Poison (NQ)
Knife

So basicly, you got 25 levels.

Perhaps extra : If you succeed in knifing someone, you go one level higher, and he loses a level, so back to the previous weapon

The first one to kill someone with a knife, wins. --> nextmap.

So, is this possible to make in ET? will it be easy to make or quite alot of work? Are there any good tutorials for mod making you can give me? Is anybody interested in helping in the project? Have any suggestions? Feel free to post

of course it would be possible but… i can’t see the fun involved in this mod. sorry.

(Miki) #3

Haven’t you ever played GunGame on CSS? I have bought CSS some weeks ago, and I think its the best, most fun mod for CSS…

(IndyJones) #4

sorry, nope
maybe it’s fun in CSS, but ET is using diffrent engine. game feels completly diffrent…

(Pegazus) #5

imo, it would be great fun. But i dont know about how balanced it would be, though i have never played that mod.
Plus, it gives something else to do in ET, then just objective.
I would say, go for it

(isbowhten) #6

i would try it out… if it isnt fun you at least have made your knowledge bigger

(Miki) #7

Yes, but I don’t know where to start. Does anybody got a good tut or can someone help me?

EDIT :

Yes that’s true. The Q3 engine is way faster then the HL2 engine in gameplay, so I guess the really fast GunGame-gameplay will really be good in ET.

If this mod is standalone you will have always empty servers.

Yet if you would add this mod as a fun mod to for exmaple etpub or nq… then people would definitely play it.
Lets say you play a campaign, 10 maps normal et, one map your fun mod… and so on; people would love it.

(Miki) #9

Who sais so… You can just join a random server with this mod, and play a round or 3 and leave. Anyway, that’s a problem for later. Aren’t there any modding tutorials out there?

(ailmanki) #10

well I run a et domination server, and I am sure the idea is excellent, the mod is nice… but the server is almost always empty… if et domination idea would be integrated into etpub, nq, or jaymod… people would love to play that once in a while… but joining a server where only that gameplay type is available - will make an empty server…

(Miki) #11

In counter strike source, that is not a problem. There are loads of servers that run ‘GunGame’. Anyway, i’ll see if I make it a NQ add-on or just an stand-alone mod, but I googled and i can’t find any ‘how to make an et mod’ tutorials…

(IndyJones) #12

because you need to know programming language…

(Miki) #13

I know a little bit C and a very little bit C++, but ET is in C I tought.
I also know PHP, ASP.NET, VB.NET, … But that’s not gonna help in ET

Trough, no idea how to start on it…

(Nail) #14

W:et = c++

(kamikazee) #15

Trust me, the vanilla game code is C. You can write C++ on top of it if you want, but the core still remains C code.

As for the thread starter’s idea: it sure is possible to do this, and maybe even as a server-side mod.

Look at the spawn functions (it’s the place where you receive new weapons), the give command, the “weapon swap” functions and the “magic ammo” functions.
Other than that, you probably want to look at the “damage” function to see when someone was killed (reward the killer there) and learn about the player structs to save the current points (you could abuse the XP counters to store the kill level).

Be warned though that newly joined players might have a hard time, and it could take quite some time to even complete a round.

(Miki) #16

Kamikazee in CSS you have alot of different versions. You have some versions where you start with the best weapons first, so it gets harder and harder for the bests : try killing someone with your poizen while they have flametrowers…

Anyway, where can i find that code?

(Miki) #18

I want to bumb this thread back up. I’ve messed around a bit with the source, (not that its working well, but whatever).

Now, I now agree that it would be best to go server side mod, like one map in a row of 10. Server admins can then still choose to run it always.

Now, how do you start on such thing, a server side mod, so ppl don’t have to download anything?

(th0rn3) #19

talk to current modding teams, like NQ to add your code to their’s

(Miki) #20

Yes, but I was thinking more in the style of etamdimnmod. In what is that made? Clients don’t have to download anything for that, right? Still you can !pip and !pants and more fun commands, so that style of ‘mod’ would be excelent
