mod download question

(P4nth3r) #1

Hi as some might have noticed I’ve made a lot of mini mods and soundpacks for ET.
Our clan has a nice public server we use for testing, but we have some trouble with the mods.
Sometimes when people have turned there downloads OFF they still can connect to the server and just don’t see or hear the mod.
Ofcourse this is no fun and it sometimes even comes close to cheating (example here: if the axis would be bright red in my they see them normal then the people with the mod would see something different then him)
So is there any way to make sure people most download the file?

I tried putting the file in different maps like etpro of etmain but it makes not difference.

I’ve heard tips about this, I think you need to add a campaign file to it so they will be downloaded.

The campaign file would be the way to got, but tell your players how to remove it when they’re done with it. The ET force downloading of campaign files is quite an annoyance for many people.
Besides, no player could gain an unnatural ADVANTAGE using the stock models, if anything it sounds like a slight disadvantage if the custom models are really easy to see (bright red)
Maybe offer DL instructions on your clan’s website for people that wish to participate.

Thnx for the info guys, I think you are right about the campaigne file (resurrection map does the same thing)
I know a lot of people don’t want to download mods etc and turn of their downloads… but if that is the case they just should find another server I think (loads around)

Well, I put a campaign file in my mod, but still people are able to get on the server without downloading the mod.
Anybody else got a good idea for this?

ps. ET_Ressurection map has some cfg files in it’s pk3 maybe that is it?

Is the campaign file in /scripts/ within the pk3?

BTW: Doing this is considered bad form, and you will have many complaints from people.

(P4nth3r) #7

yes it is in the scripts file within the pk3.
And I don’t care about complaints, like it or leave it I think.

But it doesn’t work the script.

Anything else?

Is the campaign file the campaign file you are actually using on your server? This works for me for forcing the download of etpub hitsounds to the client (I include the hitsounds in the campaign pk3), it should also work for plain vanilla ET…

Hmmm, well that is worth a try, but it’s not a real elegant way to fix this problem.
There have to be a better way don’t you think?
Thnx anywayz

rename the .pk3 “zzz_sdp_mod.pk3”

Server is pure and the file is name correctly.
So that is not it.
