I was wonder what the concensus would be about allowing the secondary firing mode of the Mobile MG42 to activate in other situations other than lying prone on the ground. Examples I had in mind were mounting on top of a crate while crouching, or mounting on top of a broken wall while standing.
Mobile MG42
If that was implemented, the ability to have the MG stand floating in midair * would have to be removed as well, otherwise they’d become too versatile.
I think that trick is there as a replacement to being unable to set the stand onto walls, anyway.
*Just in case anybody doesn’t know this: If you go prone (on a crate, say) such that your head is sticking over the edge, then set down the MG stand, the legs of the stand will be floating in midair.
spawn a weapon model at just above head height in front of the player then make it drop veeeeery quickly till it hits an object. then it could link to the player and act like a weapon, easy-ish to do
Irrelevant, that bug was removed and only in the Beta. I could do it whenever I wanted to in the beta but I can’t in the full.
Oh.
Actually, I think you need to set it down on a flat area, then crawl forward slowly with it set. I’m sure I’ve seen MG stands floating in midair.
:???:
In full I’ve had it come out in midair, but it always goes back in right away. I think they used some kind of checksum to make sure its in when standing.
:bump:
Just did a check:
Very floaty.
This might have something to do with sv_pure being off, but I doubt it, as I’ve seen it being used by other peeps.
using the mg in crouched position really is senseless as your natural spread
of fire wouldn’t allow you to hit anything. the german army still equips that
kind of weapon, slightly altered (called MG3) and its not that easy to hit any
target accurately. i’ve no doubt you wouldn’t even be able to stay in position
as the recoil is not that cute :moo:
leave it as it is.
I just have say I have used a similiar weapon than MG40 in finnish army. The guns primary function is to provide firepower. I have shot it in prone position with couple of bursts and used it as a target practise. It might be good if the first shot would be more accurate in standing and in prone position than it is now. othervise it quite similiar.

I do not claim to know anything about real guns used in WWII. :bump:
