Because it’s fun to explodes things in tiny bits. Also I heard that gore fetishism is a thing.

First it was getting insulted, now it’s a passion for gore. We have some strange fetishes eh?

Maybe if it came with a ON/OFF switch in the options. Mandatory gore (“mandagory”?) would certainly drive me away from DB.

Having a gore ON/OFF option is a no brainer. Some people like it, some don’t. It should be a choice.

Also, you definitely want to turn that off if your little cousin is watching behind or something.

From what I read on reddit, there is already a menu setting to deactivate blood effects but it’s not working. The HUD effect should be distinct from the bullet impact one.

From a game perspective blood decals serve the same role as bulletholes, except the shot landed. They indicate a fight has recently taken place. In Unreal 3 you can usually set the amount of decals you want left on the geometry.

Gibs in term of game design are a shortcut to avoid drawing the corpse. They have a shelf life before disappearing, just like the corpse itself, but it’s somewhat easier to forget them because the bits are tiny indeed. From a gameplay perspective, specially in this game, it’s even better to be able to instagib your opponent with explosives so it can’t be resurected. Because unconscious still have hitboxes

And then there is the gore fetish. Decades of FPS brought us blood splatters, death animations, ragdoll physics, particle effects… The frag is a reward of its own.

While wearing headphones.

Or just use creative censorship. Dont be a duck, sitting on the fluting C4.
