MLB Starbase released

(Marko) #1

After quite a while of bug fixing and major changes, the Starbase map is finally ready for release.

The first map section has been changed to make it harder for axis to get their forward spawn whereas the map end section is now easier for them :

both allied teleporters need to be built and can be taken out by an axis covert ops

the starbase controls that axis can build now control 2 blast doors that can be shut and close 2 fast paths allies use to disarm dynamites on the final objective.

The map can be downloaded directly from

LOL

It reminds me of UT99 maps…

(ailmanki) #3

looks very nice, the beta looked like plastic… but judging from the screenshots, it is now excellent

(DerSaidin) #4

Hey Marko, nice work

You might look at porting that map to another Q3 based game: Tremulous

It’d suit perfectly. Only need a few different entities. PM me if your interested, if you want I could port it for you?

(ShadowAgent) #5

the final version seems very good! ive played the beta and it was correct (for a beta)

(Marko) #6

I’lll look into that Tremulous game. Downloading it now

(Dlug!) #7

omg, ET is about 2nd world war, not about the 300000 year  Why u r making such maps? Have a look into the history deeper and finally make something playable with sense, not about UFO etc.

(.Chris.) #8

He making it for the fun of it, if thats the only criticism you can make of the map then perhaps just leave him be.
I haven’t read the International W:ET Mapping Rule Book yet but I’m sure there isn’t a rule that all maps must be set on Earth during WW2. :o

(broloi) #9

This map is very nice… And I know a lot of people like playing it, since its running on the bunker servers… And it doesnt matter if its some space map or a WWII map, as long as the game is balanced and fun to play…

(Dlug!) #10

oh really? My point is that there were a lot of great battles during ww2 and u r still making shits with ufos, starbases etc. Yes, its up to the author, but playing ET with such maps is ridiculous, as a map maker u can make something great, unbelievable etc., but u r just looking at the wrong direction. Im not making a map, im into different stuff, just saying my 2 cents

(broloi) #11

Then go make a WWII map… Marko wanted to make a space map, and did it…

(Flippy) #12

Imo your not really just “saying your 2 cents”… If you don’t like this map idea, then you can ofcourse freely say so, but now you’re just flaming marko because YOU don’t like his choice of theme!
I know there are alot of people who do like it, so please just keep it to your opinion and don’t tell him what to do…

I’m going to play the map now… I for one love these themes

(Flippy) #13

I just played it on local host (alone) and i like what i see
Just a few minor things like the sky showing through some of the seams (axis spawn for example).

The only thing I don’t really like is the camera’s. It’s not very obvious that they are camera’s in the first place because the image does not get flattened on a 2D plane but is actually 3D…
Hard to explain what I mean… If you sit right on top of the screen you can see more than if you move away from it… Youll understand what I mean…
And no i dont think you can do anything about that, BUT you could make it more obvious by for example overlaying a transparent brush with some video noise or something like that… Just an idea.

(Marko) #14

Hehe I see exactly what you mean Flippy. Unfortunately, the Q3 engine camera system will not allow you to have a “fixed” view of a scene like a real screen would do.

I found it quite confusing too at first but decided to leave those silly things in the map because it’s fun to see what’s happening round the corner without having to go there

Just to answer your post Dlog : I have made over 10 ET maps, all in WW2 theme… After sooo much work, I thought I would have fun for once, and as Flippy said, some people like to change from time to time 8)

(Loffy) #15

Sock’s space sky texture?

(Marko) #16

Yup, sock’s stratosphere sky

Silly me forgot to add Sock in the map credits… I’ll do it as soon as I get the map page done

(Violator) #17

Looks good, and looks like it will be a fun one  Reminds me of Halo.

Only found one minor tex misalignment so far on the axis ship control panels (all 3) -

(Marko) #18

Oops indeed… Pity I didn’t see that on the beta version :?
Thanks for reporting the bug anyhow
