Mission XP and auto selection of Missions

(Cankor) #1

So we have seen before in ETQW how you get a mission bonus when completing a mission you have selected and we have seen/read how Brink has the mission wheel to select missions from.

I have read that there are missions to heal or revive your team mates if you are a medic. My question is do you get the same amount of XP for completing these types of missions whether you have them selected or not, or does it auto select the mission for you as soon as you start doing the heal buff or whatever it will be called?

No one is going to take the time to open the mission wheel to select heal/revive missions in the heat of combat, they are just going to do them. They might not even select them if they aren’t in combat.

I suspect this has been addressed but would just like some confirmation.

I’m pretty sure it has been said that you can look at a downed teammate and tap the mission button to instantly select the mission to revive him. It wasn’t really clear if it works through walls, though.

Yeah, but why select the mission, just revive him instead. If you have to select the mission first to get the mission XP it’s a fail.

I can understand wanting players to select missions so other players know what you are up to and so the mission system can direct playes to missions which have no one doing them. This might be fine for objectives, but it doesn’t work for revive, heal, give ammo, etc. where the missions are constantly appearing and then being completed very quickly.

you might get a bonus for selecting it first, but I doubt you will get no credit if you don’t select a mission before you do it.

Actually I think it could be really good especially for reviving. It has happened way too often that I wanted to revive someone in another room near the objective and he tapped out before I could reach him or I waited for a medic that was in the next room and he never bothered to show up. Of course this is no issue when playing with good comms but that’s usually not the case on a random pub.

I’m not sure if I like the automated missions in that case. How do you know if the medic with the mission to revive you consciously chose to do that or simply ignores the mission system and will never turn up?

I wonder if it would work where the medic has selected to revive someone, if that person hits the button to join the reinforcement queue, then that players name either shows an icon or a goes a different colour to reflect that. If he has hit the button with 5 secs to go till respawn, obviously don’t waste your time, but if there’s a decent time and you can make it, then go for it… but at least you won’t be surprised if you take too long getting and find he taps out before you make it.

Even when they appear quickly it’s useful to know what your team-mates are up to.

I think you should get the XP points regardless if you chose the mission or not. I though that was what they meant when they said that expert players will not have to use the mission wheel?

I think it was said that a quick tap of the mission key would auto select the best mission for you. How the game decides that is a revive mission (or a particular one) I’m not sure but I would hazard a guess that it would be more to do with location than tactical awareness. In short if you should play the game the way the XP system dictates you to play it or be penalised for it.

The fact that you get extra xp for selecting the mission beforehand is rubbish, you’re rewarded for doing the objective slower because you hassle with the wheel first.

(Exedore) #11

The point of it is that the wheel is connected to the autochatter system, so if you select the objective you tell the person who’s down that you are coming for them and they can opt out of respawning. This is also true of the other objectives.

I don’t think there is any extra xp, atleast there shouldn’t be. They said themselves that a experienced player doesn’t need the objective wheel and can do it all himself. Which is true - after we have learned the maps we know exactly what to do.
