Mission balance: 4500 support xp vs 10000 combat xp vs 15000 xp

(n-x) #1

Arent those values a bit unbalanced to get 1000 credits. If I remember correctly game mode xp is 7500. Which I find fair. 15000 xp as well. But 4500 support vs 10.000 combat is just strange. Especially with health insurance counting towards support xp. To make it fair badge xp from kills (triple, quad, godlike and so on) should count as combat xp as well. Just my 2 cents.

As it stands now I dislike Game Mode XP missions. I know it’s a bit silly in an objective-based game, but they are by far the most constraining mission type.

Support XP missions are extremely easy to do with a wide variety of mercs (medic/ammo/recon), on any map, at any stage, as any side. Same with Combat XP, they take a bit longer but ANY merc can do them. Total XP - nuff said.

On defense, outside of explosive mercs on EV maps, you earn Game Mode XP at a snail’s pace. On offense it’s a bit better but an engineer is still highly recommended. Basically every time I get a 7500XP mission I just pick arty+engi and add “+chapel” to my server browser filter. That is if I’m playing and not just checking in on new missions - then I just press X as with all Execution missions. Yes, I dislike 6000/7500 Game Mode XP missions as much as Execution.

IMO XP requirements for Game Mode and Support should be switched.

@MarsRover I am not really keen on game mode either, but to get 7500 you just need a a good run on bridge or chapel SW or a few round Execution (dislike this mode too). so without personal bias, it is easier to get 7500 game mode xp than 10.000 combat.

You need about 60 kills+gibs for 10000 Combat XP. Less with assists. Even less if you use explosives (splash damage XP) and gib enemies your teammates didn’t. That’s two OBJ games that aren’t 4min stomps. You can do it with any merc (well some mercs take a “bit” of skill, like Sparks, but still doable), on any map, on offense/defense. I’ll take a 10000 Combat XP mission any time.

Game mode XP if anything is unbalanced, if you’re doing your job as Medic the support missions aren’t bad, you’ll get em done fast with Phoneix or Sparks.

Game Mode XP is insane though, you can plant 5 bombs in one game and only get maybe 1/3 xp needed to complete the silver or gold tiered missions.

Honestly, I am still at a loss as to how Game Mode XP works in DB. It seems to randomly complete quickly despite me not being on an engineer. And sometimes I will barely get any XP despite being an on engineer and doing objectives as much as possible. I’ve never paid attention to the numbers that pop-up so I’m pretty much ignorant of where it all comes from.

Afaik, game mode xp comes from various tasks :

 1. Planting bomb (200 main obj, 100 side ones, 1000 destroying main and possibly 1000 or 500 for side ones)
 2. Capturing forward spawn in terminal (50 pts per every 1/10 captured or so)
 3. Destroying/repairing EV (possibly the best way to grab game mode xp)
 4. Side obj building/repairing, destroying them with explosives
 5. Grabbing or returning carriable (grabbing from slot 100 xp, transmitting successfully 1000xp or 2000 if you did not drop it on the way, 100 or 200 xp for a return)
 6. Long time defending without playing obj will roughly give you 1200 xp for a full hold stopwatch round

At least, that’s what I can think of right now, there are certainly some other map specifics taken in account.

That’s very unclear indeed, and it can take several games to be completed, even if you play engineer and play obj. Generally for side obj, I noticed that destroying them with weapons/abilities gives you more game mode xp than planting then destroying them using the bomb. It’s generally faster and more efficient anyway.

It comes from ensuring there is no objective…by killing everything, so there is no one to get on the objective, or to protect it. Bwahahahaha

(WaffleMonster) #9

You get gamemode xp as any class for preventing the opposing team from doing objectives. You also get gamemode xp for guarding objectives.

Disabling the ev will also net a crazy amount of gamemode xp and is usually my preferred route but very situational.

Game Mode XP isn’t too terrible, it depends on what map. Underground, Terminal, Dome, Train Yard are the harshest since you only get it for planting, detonation, and deliverying the objective. Bridge and Canal are the easiest since you can get XP for repairing the EV and escorting the EV. This is assuming you’re on Attack, Defense can get the “Long Defense” bonus just by preventing Attack from completing the objectives.

If anything they need to up the values on planting, detonation, and delivering and perhaps add some bonus XP for being within a certain radius of the person who does such actions (after all you are defending them so they can accomplish the objective).

As for Combat, I think the requirement could be lowered. Though if you’re playing Assault you’re very likely to be able to do Combat XP missions much easier (especially that jerk, Rhino).

(DarkMatterMatt) #11

I personally think the difficulty goes support < game mode < combat, but that’s probably because I’m terrible at killing things  I usually finish support in 1 game, game mode in 1 or 2 (depending on the map) and combat in 2 or 3.

(Naonna) #12

You know you can play the game just for the enjoyment of it. It’s not a big deal about the numbers popping up if you have a good time and try to win a round now and then.

 1. SNIP POWERS ACTIVATE

You’ll always get 1000 gamemode exp for a delivery, and you’ll get an additional 250 BADGE exp (Gauntlet is the badge name) if you manage not to drop it on the way to delivering it. I’ve never gotten additional gamemode experience for the 100+ Gauntlets I’ve gotten. :pensive: Cool idea though!
#Engielivesmatter

 1. You also get gamemode experience for winning a standard game (I believe 500 for SW, and 250 for OBJ), and 200 for every round won in Execution.
 2. You also get a TON of points for standing next to the EV and moving it. Not to mention bonus badge exp (Honor Guard, or escort?) from doing so for 5 seconds straight. You also get this experience REGARDLESS of how many people escort it. So sacrifice your bodies to my Arty strikes, it’s worth it.

I want to say the amount of gamemode exp from escorting is given in relation to time, with every ~8 seconds being ~300 gamemode exp. I know that on Chapel, if I’m the only one keeping up with it I usually get 1500-2000 gamemode exp and more badge exp from Honor Guard.
If only Phantom could do objectives while invisible. I’d just sit in the turret, shoot nothing, and laugh.
That’s because you kill everything before objectives ever get done, or you’re so good at putting people down that the proxy plants unharmed… you also don’t play Engineer THAT often from what I can tell.

If I need gamemode exp, I go execution with an engie, or I go stopwatch Chapel (Aka “Attack On Arty”)

It seems that game mode xp is buggy. I just joined a SW second half on underground. Attacker side. Enemy team hasnt finished any objectives.

I planted C4 on first objective. It gets defused. Plant again, it explodes, we win.
825 Game mode xp. This is wrong, isnt it?

It is extremely buggy. You don’t get XP for planting or detonating the C4. Idk about defusing.

Canal? Sounds like an awesome map!

(aminuseternal) #17

Combat XP is the tough one for me, but I mainly play medics and then engis so I’m not great at the combat mercs, and I mainly use fire support abilities to destroy objectives sooooooooo yeah. >_>

(NinjaToast) #18

Combat XP is kind of annoying at how slow it is. I can finish the 3 star Support XP mission in a single OBJ 8v8 if it isn’t a stomp. For the Combat XP 3 star mission, on the other hand, I usually get about 50-70% of the XP required during one OBJ 8v8 when doing well. The most combat XP I’ve gotten before is just over 8000 (about 45 kills) and a match that lasts long enough to get that many kills is pretty rare.

Support XP is also just a lot easier to get. Just plop down an Aura station, spam Phoenix heals in a group, or REVIVR people all match and it’s easy.

I don’t do the Game Mode XP ones and can’t compare. They seem like they’d be too much effort considering there are limited objectives.

(MarsRover) #19

Support XP mission numbers were set before the implementation of health insurance and were never adjusted. That’s why they’re so easy to complete. If they were designed now they would most likely be close to Game Mode XP values.
