Mission 5: How to win (single player)?

(commanderz) #1

I love Brink.

But how do i win mission 5? Hacking the missile is impossible. The enemy bots can defend very easyly while my bots are stupid. I have tried to defend the agent hacking the missile control, i have tried to hack my self and other tactics. Again and again and again. Tried in easy level. But had no chance to win.

I am very annoyed.

Is there anybody who can help with useful tactics? Or is this mission impossible?

actually, you are just bad. try with a friend.

sigh

OP - try to play that campaign online with others. The bots are a tad stupid in some circumstances - hack objectives are a definite weak-point for them I’m afraid. Change the Visibility from Solo to Public, and enjoy some games with others when you get stuck like this

I had great success by going Engi and covering the bots. First thing, repair the crane to raise the bridge shortcut, then go back and take that route. Sit on the little area above the hack box and rain death upon your enemies while the Operatives hack the objective. When your team gets killed(and it will happen) duck into cover and pick off any enemy Engies trying to de-hack. The important thing is to survive, because if you die, your bots are absolutely screwed.

When I did this, I was level 19 or 20, and my only Engi skill was Improved Weapon Buff.

If you are having difficulties, try using a heavy operative. But I actually like this map a lot and do not find it very difficult anymore. I usually play as a Medium operative (lvl 19) and what I do is place the hack box, and if it is clear start your hack. Then move into one of the side rooms (with the two entrances) there is one on each side. I recommend the one on the right if you are facing the missile panel. Then simply hang tight and SPOT, SPOT, SPOT the enemy (like BFBC2) for your team to take care of. Also do not be afraid to pull out a gun or grenade if the enemy is about to undo your hack. The main thing is two eyes spotting the enemy and one eye on the hack box. Works for me every time, at least with bots. Good Luck.

Means you have three eyes?
Neat.

Muderous Pie - it’s really tragic that we’re not all as good as you are…

I actually had trouble yesterday trying to run through the What If mission for Resistance where we had to hack the generators or whatever (only played the map a few times, and always as security) and my team of bots, 2 of them were Operatives and refused to hack.

So when I finally would get to hack, the entire Security team would roll my bot team and I can’t always win 1v6… it literally came down to the last second to make it to the next stage.

QFT!!!

I played as a Heavy Engy, with a Medium turret and only 1 mine and was still able to pass this obj. I set my obj to “Cover the (name of operative)” and just laid down lots of cover fire. I had two medics on my team who of course did the kamikaze revive run o’ death to always heal/revive me. Once we had our Ops in the area, We were able to hold down the baddies. Most would come from straight ahead, up the ramp. The two Ops would hack and the rest would defend. I had my turret on one side of the deck and I covered the other side with my minigun. I had the lobster as my 2nd to knockdown any bad Engies who got close to the hack box.

It wasn’t easy, but it was crazy fun!

Did it as a pretty unskilled medium op (early on, not that it really made all that much difference to the difficulty) and then did it later on with another toon as a fully kitted out light op. It’s tough but the only real tip I have found to work is to not get absorbed in the hacking all the time.

Get caltrops down on the platform to the right (if you have them), start your hacking but as soon as you see anything on the radar (or the caltrops go off) break the hack and start holding your ground. I found that by slowly chipping away at the hacking and keeping the area clear myself, it worked most of the time.

What Sinner said or raise the bridge then constantly rush it as operative and hope for the best

Thanks to you all! (except two ^^)

Yeah! Did it as an engi placing the light sentry in the room in front of the missile control and blowing all enemies away who was trying to get close to the control. But took me ~30 tries to find the right place for the sentry gun. The best was: The bots in my team supported me very well with ammunition and health to successfully defend the control hacker.

It was a very intense fight! At the end very rewarding. It reminded me to never give up
So i forgive the annoying tries yesterday evening.

Thank you!

(By the way: My Engi is only level 9)

Hooray! I hope you spent some pips throwing Kevlar to the Ops and Medics. That helps em survive too. Always try to keep one pip around (like don’t chuck too many grenades) so you can rebuild your turret if it gets destroyed.

Do the mission on a low level character and then do the rest on that character. The bots scale to your level so the lower you are the more the friendly AI will help you. Get a hack box on the obj and sit there, keep hacking untill a wave comes at you, help fight it off and then continue hacking, worked for me anyway.

Raise the bridge.

Use the tunnel next to the missile - turret at end nearest enemy spawn, you tucked in next to the spool.

One mine above you to stop baddies shooting down through the hatch, one mine in front of the missile controls to prevent anti-hacks.

Kill like a mad loon, particularly when your bots have one of their ‘synchronised mass die-offs’ and leave you alone. Protect those hack %'s!! Replace mines and repair the turret constantly - you have to stay active on the objective to help your bots out, possibly more so on this mission than any other in the game.

Remember that Bot performance is purely random. Success comes from having numbers in the area around the missile, AND having your and your turret to trim the enemy numbers. Keep trying and racking up XP. Raging won’t help - YOU can only achieve so much and if you’re doing all the killin’, you ain’t hacking - eventually the bots will get their **** together and you’ll pull it off.
