missing BAK file.

Hi ladies and gentlemen,
I have a problem i cant for the life of me find a solution for. Basically as my title says i dont have a BAK file once i’ve compiled my map… I ofc did have a bak file with previous saves of my map, but not no more.

I’m using Radiant 1.5 all i changed from the previous save was adding a light, changing its light value from 300 to 700, changed the colour and added a STYLE value of 3 to get a flashing effect. That is all i done. So i decided to revert back to a previous save and reload the map, then rename the map, save again and compile, but same thing…NO BAK FILE :frowning:

I really hope somebody can help and apologies if there is already topic posted about this anomaly, however i didnt see one…

1 more thing to add to this 5MB passage memory, only 362 brushes used and 3 entities in my map

Kind regards Adam

if you have autosave on, you might try mapname.autosave.map. iirc its set to 5 minute? well if you have luck, and didnt afk after having changes in map, it might work. i think theres no way left if neither the bak nor autosave has the version u want ;(((

hi,
I never have autosave on, i however did get the BAK file from a previous save tho and rename it to my current save, but that was too good to be true as it did’nt work either. :frowning: any more suggestions are greatly appreciated

a bak file is just a map file… rename .bak and to .map and it opens normally.

What are you looking for though? If you want to release the map, you don’t need the .bak, ESPECIALLY if you don;t want others taking your work.

.bak is .backup, I don’t know how it is made but ya I noticed its made every like 5 compiles I ever do. Odd, dunno the reason, but don’t worry about it unless you are looking to backtrack to previous versions of a map.

also, I strongly suggest using autosave, its saved my map 2 times.

i think he wanna revert to an earlier version to his map but not a too much earlier; which he has already; but a recent one. i think; its not possible with autosave off, and latest bak already too old.

hi and tnx for replies,
Ok, i assumed the BAK file had somthing to do with managing/pointing to textures as a friend of mine came to test my map the other night. He couldn’t see any of the textures in my map, however i had used standard textures that ships with ET, thats where i assumed the BAK file had something to do with this… now i know it is BAK - backup and only saves once in 5 saves or so, then i need not worry…

Is odd tho why he doesnt see the textures, yet never had problems b4 when testing maps, also sometimes when i saved, it would load up the textures in radiant but no map data in my viewport… I removed and reinstalled 1.5 last night and hoping im not going to get any more problems.

make sure you didn’t hit alt + 1, or hide world.
view > Filters to double check.

make sure none have an arrow.
