Mirrored Flag

(phisherman) #1

Hello

I think you all know it:
The Flag you see at the Forward Bunker ( or how the places are called ) is only shown correctly if you look at the front of it.
If you look at the Back, the flag is shown mirrored.

I dont have any idea how to fix this and if it’s possible at all, I just want to tell and ask you, if there are some Geniuses who have too much spare time and want to fix it for me.

If it’s possible, maybe someone is so kind and fixes it.

Dunno if it is this what you mean, but better give it a try ey:

(click the link ^^)
do ctrl + F => put in the search box the following : “i made some flags on my map” (without the " " of course)
then you’ll go directly to the flag problem.

(phisherman) #3

Thanks for your answer.

But that’s not the problem i’m talking about ( i dont see any problem in your case, sorry, there are just two flags hanging around, where’s the problem??? ).

I made two screenshots so it’s easier for you to understand my problem.

That’s the front ( shown correctly ):

And that’s the back ( shown mirrored ):

Is there anyone who knows how to fix this? It would really help me.

(Pegazus) #4

I dont think that is a problem, the flag should be like that.
Think about it, turn the flag around and you get my point.
Or if i am wrong i am in a deep shame :frowning:

(kamikazee) #5

A real flag is supposed to work like that. (Except if some of the details are printed onto the fabric, though the details would be faintly visible on the other side if the sun lights it.)

I’m not sure it can be fixed… You could look at Q3Map2 Shader Manual: Shader keywords: q3map_cloneShader keyword, but I’m not sure if it works for textures on models. On the other hand, it shouldn’t be a problem to use it on brushes.

(Nail) #6

the pics you show are correct for real life, why would you want it different ?

go look at a real flag, stars are on pole side always

(phisherman) #7

Yeah, I know that flags in real life are just like that.

But the reason for that is because it’s cheaper if they do it like this.
Because you just have to print each side with the same model.

If you would see the flag correctly on both sides, they would have to print different models on each side.
And that’s too expensive.

But this is not real life and I think it would be nicer if the flag is shown correctly on both sides.

Thank you, kamikazee, but I dont know what to do with that.
I’m a noob, I dont know what “q3map_invert” means.
Does anybody here knows it?
It would be very kind if this person would fix it for me.

(Pegazus) #8

The flag is shown correctly on both sides, or am i missing something?

(Tyrlop) #9

well there is no flag that is like you say. and i dont see a reason to make it lol :stuck_out_tongue:

(phisherman) #10

You’re from the USA?
You really should know your countryflag…
And you should notice the flag is shown different on these two pictures. It’s impossible that both are correct.

Yes, that’s right, because it’s too expensive.
But I think it would be better if it would be shown correctly on both sides, if that’s realistic or not.

Do you know how to fix that? Would you do that for me, please?

(Tyrlop) #11

you could doble to model or make some shader i suggest, but really no flag is like that, even for rich people or rich countrys
You’re from the USA?
You really should know your countryflag… ;)
Ah, them Americans…

He’s from Estonia if we may believe his “Location:” entry.

Yes i am from Estonia, why would i lie about that? lol

I think it is right as it is in the game.

(Nail) #14

be VERY careful changing the US flag, there are protocol, etiquette and legal issues to be considered. The flag is shown correctly, expense has no bearing.

(phisherman) #15

Well, I think it’s kind of strange that even the big flags of the government are like this.
I thought about the cheap and little ones you wave for your football team.
But not even the official ones are correct, that’s very strange.

But if even George has his flag waving like this, I think I can, too.

Thanks for your help, I’ll let the flag how it is and play with it.
Thank you, guys, for your help.

(IndyJones) #16

are you sick or something? they ARE correct. show wich ones are correct - in your opinion.

(phisherman) #17
are you sick or something?
No, i’m fine.

they ARE correct.
Yeah, they already told me…
show wich ones are correct - in your opinion.
As far as I know the stars on the american flag are on the left.
I think it would be better if the stars are on the left sides on the whole flag, not only on one side of it.

But if that’s normal, ok, I didn’t know, but that’s no problem.
Thanks for you help anyway.

(-SSF-Sage) #18

Maybe you could put a note into your readme, to alert ppl to only look at the flag while the stars are on the left side.

(Zer0Cool) #19

or use the sprite command so they always see just the “right” side :stuck_out_tongue:

(-SSF-Sage) #20

Lol right. Autosprite (1) so it rotates on all axes.
