Minimum 6 players for a private match... Why?

(ProfPlump) #1

I was really excited for private matches as they presented the long-awaited opportunity for me to go on empty servers and practice the parkour elements of the game, find new sneaky spots to place turrets and mines, find interesting lines of sight for Vassili, discover CS:GO-style grenade throws for Skyhammer and Redeye, to test the stats of weapons with a friend and the list goes on…

But, obviously, this is still not possible as I need to find an entire group of people to do this and I’m pretty sure my friends don’t take the game as seriously as I do so they probably wouldn’t appreciate me saying “heeeey can you come and sit in my private match for half an hour while I repeatedly throw grenades over walls?”.

WHY is this minimum of 6 people a requirement? Plus, why can’t we just have it so that you can create and join a private match on your own with no other players, but the match cannot START before you have 6 people? That way you can still run around on the map with a “waiting for X more players” tacked on the screen.

This is because you are not hosting the server on your end, it takes up a slot of a dedicated server on Nexon’s half which would be extremely troublesome if players began starting hundreds of 1v1’s then no one else would be able to get a match, of course this is not an optimal solution but then again the feature is in alpha stages and will likely change when it’s fully implemented.

I heard somewhere that the servers, actually, WERE hosted by the individual and not by Nexon…

P2P hosting pls go.

Well that’s not true, they are hosted on Nexon’s behalf, I’m sure this may be for data collection since they would have no connection to individual hosts and that would slow progress down on the feature quite considerably. Once this reaches full implementation or maybe even the beta stage it’ll be opened up so we can do less than a 6 player minimum but don’t quote me on that.

What you may be thinking is that a player hosts the match, but they do not host the server, when the match is created it takes up the slot of a server already there.

Limited dedicated servers. Though they ought to add some sort of way to host private matches on your own machine for sub-6-player private matches.

Because 3vs3 = 6 players

(1 medic, 1 obj spec, 1 ammo supplier) = Balanced team

on 4vs4

(1 medic, 1 obj spec, 1 ammo supplier, 1 recon) = Balanced team

have a look at this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dirtybomb/comments/367s3r/how_do_i_play_alone_in_a_offline_server/

you can play by yourself, but i’m not sure if you can choose your own mercs (i think theres a part that talks about it).

“This is because every time you make a server, it takes up the slot of a regular server (servers are NOT hosted from your PC). It’s about balancing resources, because if we had lots of 1v1’s running at once, the resource usage would be too high.” - Shoe, Splash Damage Community Manager.

(It’s paraphrased, but you get the point) <3
