Minigun/Rhino

Minigun needs a bit of reworking. Basically this game is TF2 meets Quake. A lot of elements is like TF2. Just like Rhino is like HWguy. However, everyone in DB runs like scout on roids and the minigun isn’t nearly as accurate as in TF2. Which poses a problem.

I’d like to see the bloom effect on the crosshair removed, add a bit of recoil and or maybe a bit of faster overheat to compensate. You don’t really need that much heat as it is now because if you shoot more than 1 second you won’t hit earth if you were inside it.

I would also like to see a small movement speed while barrels are spinning but I’m guessing people won’t handle that. And in theory, removal of the bloom on crosshair should be enough. As it stands now, extremly few players are playing Rhino. Why? Because shotguns are more accurate, more damaging and you can bob in and out from behind walls while running faster than flash and supermans love child. Or you can just go assault rifle with mortar capabilities.

Rhino has no speed, no accuracy and no deterrent. Minigun is his special and it isn’t enough. Nobody is afraid of running into Rhino in close quarters in a tight corridor. It’s just spam jump and shotgun shoot while midair at 150 mph.

Would also love to see another loadout other than shotgun and pistol, however if the bloom is dealt with, shotgun and pistol should do fine.

Honestly it’s fine, I like that the spread is so wide since it limits it to close quarters and indoor combat, while the revolver and shotgun combo is better for outdoors and outside of the minigun’s effective range.

Plus, unlike Nader, Rhino is a literal Tank, you give him a healing station he will be TOUGH to take down without having a group work together.

Could it get slightly more accuracy? Maybe, but the role it needs to fill now is working fine as it is.

Power wise he is fine, but i wouldnt mind more accuracy BUT with less damage, right now its pretty silly how fast he can kill but its pretty random aside from really close range.

Right now, Rhino can easily hold down a lane by himself + 1 Medic and noone can really pass.

Just had the following scenario on the Metromap.
Every 20m there was the same Rhino standing behind a corner, Aura-healingstation next to him, constantly spinning up his Minigun.
As soon as I poke my head out of cover for less than 0.4s, he already shoots and I’m down to 40/50 health.
The problem was: Our team had no teamwork, so it was 1 Sawbonez + Me vs. Rhino-in-position-with-his-minigun-ready-to-fire+Aura-healing-reviving-next-to-him.
It took us 4-5 teammates running towards him all at the same time, and then 1 survived and still had to fight Aura and lost.
Power-wise, he’s more than fine, IMO, but still not too strong.

its about two things:

  • rhino needs a dedicated medic
  • tap-shooting with the minigun, firing ~10 bullets per salvo will keep minigun accurate at mid-range

Also, at close range you can spray, starting at the head, and going down with aim as it gets random. Most people get SHREDDED.

With a bit more experience I’ll say it’s better than when I first played it. However I still feel that Rhino has more disadvantages than anyone. Slow moving, big target, sound of spinning up and very distinctive shooting sounds alerting anyone that there is a Rhino nearby. With a good medic you can crush pretty hard. However without a medic, not so much.

Maybe not a total removal of bloom but a reduction, or a speed increase while gun is spinned up. Because you are quite the sitting duck, I’d rather have the reduction to bloom because to me it’s more important to kill what you shoot. While every other class can run and gun with ease, Rhinos cannot.

I also personally think that Rhinos are easy to counter, unless they are mediced up. There is a reason why there is 1 Rhino per game (me  ). Everyone is running Skyhammer/Arty, Aura/SawBonez and Proxy. Those that bought mercs go Nader, Bushwacker and Kira.

Rhino is a solo lane character, unless a medic is with him. Though he can hold a lane properly by himself, he falls under slow movement and his size makes it hard for him to escape certain situations. I usually play Fragger, who is also a quite large character that is a mix in of Rhino and Skyhammer when it comes to size. He also isn’t the fastest, so he relates well to Rhino.

I personally think Rhino is a fine character if teamwork is being used properly and if medbags and ammo crates are dropped for him.

nader and fragger counter his medic support and he’s easy to hit with explosives because he’s big and slow. though he’s great against a team of new players who don’t have a variety of mercs on their side.

still haven’t felt any kind of intimidation factor from rhino (yet), more of a ‘free lunch’ feeling.

@Brandon I agree that he’s a fine teamplay character, with proper medics on your team it goes quite well. But I also doubt he’ll be used a lot in competetive gameplay.

@avidCow I do quite well as Rhino, trying to play around the drawbacks. But like you said, the intimidation factor feels lackluster at times. A very good shotgunner (AKA Aura) won’t respect you at all.
