Minigun heat color not disappearing

No video this time, but the bug is easy to describe:

With Rhino, use the minigun and fire for some time without reaching the overheat limit, then release the fire button and you can see the heat staying on.

Now if you fire again, the heat completely goes off and the barrels are pure black again, then heat again because you are firing.

Was this wanted as is with the heat only dissipating when you start firing again or is it a bug ?
