Mines

(Nerfed) #1

Hello there, I’ve been on the Bethesda forums for a few days, but the SD forums are more popular, so I might as well come here more often.

So, mines. They could either be pressure-activated, or go by presence (on the latest Get SMART, the deployment shadow of the mine was flipped vertically when the engineer looked at the side of a barrel, so there may be walls that ‘accept’ mines).

Either way, there’s one thing I hope will be in the game; the detonation of mines not being related to who steps on/off the mine, but rather, whether someone is on the mine or not.

I’ll elaborate on this matter;

John here, is a soldier. All his teammates are busy minding their own objectives, and John decided to do a delivery objective (pick up a key object and deliver it somewhere… maybe something like bringing a power source to a machine?), but oh noes! A mine! And John just primed it by coming too close to it!

Sadly, the engineers and operatives are busy/far away, and the only teammate near John is Bob, another soldier. He doesn’t have a fancy defuser, and can’t ‘spot’ the mine either.
Surely Bob can’t help John out… Or can he? Yes! He can!

Brave as Bob is, he steps onto the mine as well. John takes the hint of this noble act, and runs off to deliver the objective, while Bob waits for an operative or engineer to help him out. In the end, Bob even earns some bonus xp for his deeds, as well (for helping out an objective-carrier)!

There you go.

I hope this isn’t a repost (it wasn’t on the Bethesda forums), and I hope that (in case this isn’t in-game already) devs will notice this, and consider including it in Brink.

Makes sense. So rather than it havign a trigger, than when hit it goes back ,and when a certain player goes it booms, but rather it just senses the weight?

What the hell am I reading…

I liked mines and trip mines in QW, hated the red dotes on them though.

There was something about that click that made you freeze for a second, eyes popping out and head ducked between shoulders. I’ll never forget it when I passed by one, heard the click and weird coincidence, power went out in my house, computer shut down, lights out and me staring in darkness for a few seconds, my brain desperately trying to figure out what the hell just happened. Priceless.

Hopefully these ones in Brink will be as fun or even more fun.

as players can’t occupy the same space, player B will force player A off the mine, downing them both

Pretty much. Imagine the mine being a small ball. Once you come too close, you’re forced to hold it. If you drop the ball, or take it with you past a certain range, it explodes. If you pass the ball on to a teammate, it doesn’t count as dropping it, and you’re not taking it with you, so you’re free (but now your teammate is stuck with the ball).

While this is true, I think mines are presence-activated, rather than pressure-activated (see the thing about wall-mines). Therefore, I’d imagine that the range within which mines are primed is large enough for 2 players to fit in.

it worked in W:ET tho

would be cool if. but idk if the mines are pressure or presence activated. i read somewhere, can’t remember where, that they’re pressure activated. step on it,you’re fine, step off of it you getting blown to shreds. if so, the space on the mine could be a little too tight.

It’s in the current Get SMART vid. Looks like presence activation, at least there seems to be a certain radius to move around one the mine is primed. Look it up here.

alright, thanks for posting this!

Very good idea OP, and it would be neat to see it implemented. I honestly don’t see a downside to it, it would only add to the strategy of overcoming a mine. Sounds really cool.
