mines bug / maximum map size?

(G0-Gerbil) #1

I have a map whose boundaries are:

mapcoordsmins = -2816 11520
mapcoordsmaxs = 9216 -512

As far as I’m aware it’s not an overly large area, but…

You can’t drop mines when in certain parts of the map. Or rather, you can throw 'em and your charge bar goes down, but no model appears and hunting the ground in front of you with pliers never finds anything to build. (Note even if it’s not a minable place, you should SEE the mine at least).

Note it only happens in parts of the map - currently the only connection I’ve found so far is that the bits you can’t see your mines in have a Y coordinate < 5000 (only a rough estimate based on a few quick tests).

Woss goin’ on?

Dyno appears to be fine - will test arty / heavy weapons tomorrow but any ideas would be cool.

First thing I notice is that the mapcoords need to make a square.
in stead of
mapcoordsmins = -2816 11520
mapcoordsmaxs = 9216 -512

try
mapcoordsmins = -9216 11520
mapcoordsmaxs = 9216 -11520

Gerbil’s coordinates ARE a square!!! It just doesn’t have 0,0 as the origin. :bored:

(Flash95) #4

I had the same problem until I made my origin 0,0

(Mlehliw) #5

His map is square; just because the coordinates are not equal does not mean it is not a square.

Btw you map coordinates do not make a square

(Flash95) #6

ok then guys what is the answer???
dont just stand around kicking me help the dude.

(G0-Gerbil) #7

Am about to try a build where I’ve moved my map so it’s bottom left corner is at the origin. I don’t really expect it to make any difference, but stranger things have happened…

(G0-Gerbil) #8

OK tried moving it, and it caused a rather unusual bug, which I’ve found a workaroud for for now: http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3945

Most odd.

As to whether it solved my mines problem - no it didn’t.
With a bit of research, here’s the values I can think of as relevant:

mapcoordsmins: 0 11264
mapcoordsmaxs: 11264 0

Y value boundary between being able to drop a mine and not: 7424 (almost exactly to the unit).

When you try to throw a mine and your Y location is > 7242 then it’s succesful. Any lower and nothing happens apart from your charge bar goes down and you switch to pliers.

Please help me SD :slight_smile:

Would this happen to be the Helms Deep map? :slight_smile:
If so…for christ’s sakes help the man out! I’m dying to play Helm’s Deep!
:clap:

(G0-Gerbil) #10

Is there basically a maximum size for maps by the way?
Goldrush ain’t exactly small, but this one is about 50% bigger in maximum limits for command map.

(G0-Gerbil) #11

No sorry, this is MP Forum. Helm’s Deep comes once I’ve finished this one :frowning:

(G0-Gerbil) #12

OK double checked - it’s only mines that have this problem.
Grenades, dyno, arty cannisters, smoke cannisters, satchel charges etc all appear and work fine :confused:

What’s the bug with mines???

(Flash95) #13

then its got to be in your shader file for the terrain textures.
look in mapname.shader file.
thats where I would start anyway

(G0-Gerbil) #14

It’s not the planting mines that’s buggy, it’s that when you try to throw one, no mine appears at all!

It never gets onto a surface to have to check the surfaceparm :confused:

Your charge bar goes down and you switch to pliers, but no little cylinder to wave it at :frowning:

(Flash95) #15

hmmm
I ran across another wierd error in one of myh maps could not solve it for anything. out of desperation I reloaded ET and BOOM! everything worked.
just a though…

(Vetinari) #16

exactly this happened to me on the railgun map. I dropped a mine at the track switch, the power bar went down and … no mine to arm :expressionless:
maybe that’s another bug, because I wanted to place the mine where another mine exploded a few secs before, i.e. on the darkest spot of the explosion. just a guess: how many layers of shaders and textures are on the places where no mines can be planted / seen?

(cicero) #17

Mapmins and mapmaxs but what about mapheight? Doesn’t ET care about map height? Can you just ignore height? Got a message about max visual distance or something like that…

Ciao!
