Minas Tirith first playable :)

With much trepidation I proudly present the first, stupidly early, public view of my upcoming map MML_MinasTirith.

This is FIRST PLAYABLE - be aware modelling, texturing and layout are all currently sub-standard, but I did promise I’d release at least a very early version before Christmas, so here it is.

Yeah you’d be hard pressed to find a bigger ET map out there :slight_smile:
This is partly the reason why it looks so crap. I have spent lots of time on it, but most has been dedicated to sorting out reasonable compile times and framerates throughout the map. Hopefully in the new year I can focus on just the look and really get it done up nicely.

bump - Small script patch to fix spawnpoint bug on 5th level (if you satchel the gate as opposed to dyno it then the gate blows but doesn’t change the spawn locations to higher up the city)

Is that from the top level (where the tree is) or from the top of the beacon? Gives you a bit of extra airtime :slight_smile:

The skybox (like everything else) is temporary.
You may note it doesn’t work quite like any other skybox you’ve seen in ET.
Try typing something like /cg_fov 45 for example* the skybox sets to it but everything else is clipped to 90 which is ET’s hard coded limit.
Also notice things like setting up the MG - the skybox changes zoom sllightly differently to the rest of the screen.

A few quirks, but I’ve had to do it for some of the functionality I intend to put in the map - suffice to say that you won’t have seen anything like it before :wink:

As for 6 months, I spent a long time setting up the map so it was workable, and for the last 2 months I’ve had too much work to do much on it.
Rest assured that come the new year, things will progress quicker :wink:

  • thinking about it I’m not sure if this only works in /sv_pure 0 mode, but I can’t see why it would - pure / unpure servers still use the var limits.

Damn, Gerbil. That almost looks like a render!
I hope I’ll find a server with low ping to play, or else I’m afraid I’ll only keep staring at the screenies.
All the Israeli servers (1 ping) are gone for some reason and I’m sometimes having a single-digit fps at SplashDamage’s maps, which is quite scary.
Add this to the size of the map and… walla! you got yourself another reason to buy a new computer.

Heh trust me it doesn’t look nearly so good close up, but at least framerates are good enough when inside the city to let me put in a ‘bit’ more detail when I get time.
It’ll have to stay low poly so I’ll probably end up going crazy with custom hi-res textures - it’ll need a reasonable graphics card… (Try running this with a 16bit depth buffer and see how completely and utterly wrong it looks).
