Milkshape and ET

(|WND| Bassist4Christ) #1

I’ve been trying to import some models that I have made with Milkshape into Radiant, but everytime that I’ve tried, the model comes out great, but the textures just don’t show. I get the “shader image missing” texture and a black and orange texture in-game.

Could anyone that has had any luck successfully importing .md3s made with Milkshape please PM me or supply me with a Quake 3 or ET specific tutorial for Milkshape? You help would be much appreciated.

Did you assign a material to the group(s)?
Did you change the $skin path in the .qc file?
Are your textures power of 2 sized?

Paposo’s tutorial is great IMO.

yeah, great tut, learned me a lot.
Just read and do it once and you get a long way.

Yes
I believe I did, but once I edit it, do I just save it?
Yes

I’ll get back to you after I check out the tutorial, make sure I’ve done everything you suggested, and try a few more times. Btw, should the model come up in Radiant well textured or do I have to run the map to see it?

AFAIK you have to save the qc file in the same directory your model is, otherwise Milkashape won’t be able to read it and export your model.

Btw, should the model come up in Radiant well textured or do I have to run the map to see it?

AFAIK if you don’t use special shaders which are never displayed in Radiant, a misc_model or misc_gamemodel should be displayed with textures in Radiant.

I have begun a video tutorial section at www.map-craft.com
Milkshape is my first project for the video section and I will be recording the “texturing and .qc file” video today. This one will not be advanced skinning but rather a general overlook on how to get poly-s and groups textured and into the game.

The link is not public yet because it is highly under construction. Check there later today or tomorrow, for part 3.

  • I will actually be re-doing the recordings soon…but I didn’t think about the speed of my speech, so thank-you. If you have any other suggestions…please feel free to share.
