Might get this on PS3 today...
I’d say avoid jumping in without a parachute or safety net. You are off to a good start by coming here. If you get the game, my best advice is to follow the links provided, and join some of the others there so you start with a base of players. You’ve obviously heard all the bad press and to an extent its true. Trick with Brink is having 5-10 solid friends who play on a regular basis. This is not a 50 million sales COD fanbase, but a very small niche new IP. Brink is a game that has a wagon train of baggage and negative following. So your best bet to have a fun experience is to find like-minded folks who still play and enjoy it. Renting it is tough because it has a steep learning curve and is hard to pick up in a rental period, so I’d discourage that. Not a Gamefly Rental.
Well, Look at it this way. Sales and quality aside, It’s still probably not as bad as Call of Duty is. I’m trading SOCOM 4 to get this, So it’s probably an upgrade either way, And hey, If it does turn out to be a dud, I always have UC3 and BF3 to look forward to :D.

I think I will pick this up today, See you guys online, and thank you for all the help

any version of cod is far preferable to this game, and has 50x as many people playing it, and i myself despise the cod series as a whole

Disagree 100%. I wouldn’t touch any COD game with a long stick … .

I will now only drop into CoD BlOps if I have a few friends and we’re rolling in a private match vs the bots. Don’t like playing against the masses anymore in that game. Too much rage.

i gotta get this **** done though, or my crash course with a daily brink marathon starting sunday (and overlapping with the DLC i hope is released tuesday) is gonna get pushed back…i think i’ll have a mic by then too! (actually i think i already have one, just not sure how well it’s gonna work and haven’t had time to test it)

I own MW2/Blops, and I play Brink at least 3-4 times more often then both of them. Black Ops’ multiplayer is pure garbage, no exceptions, and while MW2 I find a little more entertaining, it is still full of children quick-scoping and noob-tubing, which completely takes any fun out of the game. Just because more people play it, doesn’t mean it’s automatically better or more entertaining than other games.

Welp, Finally got it, And I gotta say, It’s pretty fun. Feels like a cross between the Xbox 360 game “Shadowrun” and Killzone 3 (with a bit of classic ET:XX style dynamics), First game I got three people on my team and about 5 on the other team (At least I’m guessing, They had abnormal names and latency bars by them), So I’d have to say that’s pretty damn good.

Still kinda worried about it dying out completely though D:.

if you like it already that’s a good start. and there is some degree of confusion (or lack of clarity) as to the limits of the “standard” mode. for a while, it was 8 humans max, now it seems to allow 16 humans, but “standard” matches (for me) seem to cap at 8. so 3 v 5 sounds about right. (i dont love the bots, but they are helpful in some respects, and as long as it’s not 6 v 2 (humans) or worse, they tend to carry enough of their weight to keep gameplay balanced (plus the bot medics are extremely dedicated, especially if you are the objective completing class)

there are rumors that the patch that’s coming with the DLC is pretty good sized, and we’re all hoping it cleans up the matchmaking a bit

it’s also fun to play the “campaign” mode with/against humans. if you play campaign and set the matches to public, and “my rank or above”, (iirc), you will play the campaign, but other people in freeplay and/or campaign may end up dropping into your matches…

anyway, enjoy. sounds like there’ll be another batch of chat invites going out soon, so get your psn in that thread if not already. hope to see you on soon (i should be done with work **** by sunday, but i’m sure lots of folks will be on tonight and tomorrow as well)

Just so you know, a lot of the PS3 group play with their level 20 characters so you might be too low of rank to play with us right at the start. It really isn’t a bad idea to go through the challenges play against bots and build up your character’s rank a bit. The good news: It doesn’t take long to get to level 20.

My PS3 name is TragHIP feel free to send a friend request. I do have a level 11 character that I could use if you wanted to team up.

(R_Shackelford) #35

I actually don’t play with my level 20s very often, because as soon as I hit 20, I start working on a new character. I do a lot of offline leveling up on lower-level characters, though.

Of course, once the DLC comes along with the new level 24 cap, I’ll have to max out all those level 20s.

I almost want the DLC to come the week after next (instead of this upcoming Tuesday), because by then I think I could have all ten characters at level 20.

Note: “almost want”

and i felt blasphemous for being glad the DLC didn’t come out this week (too much work to really enjoy it

Also, you can join the upper level games with your lower chars, but the weapon and ability options are somewhat limited till you get to at least rank 2, and realistically rank 3 (or even 4). It’s a pretty quick journey to rank 2 (level 5), and not too slow to 10 (rank 3)…and like R_Shack and TragHIP say, there are plenty of us who are leveling up new chars too.

you also may want to blast through the 1 and 2 star challenges since that unlocks some of the weapon mods that are useful (front grips for ARs, better scopes, extended magazines, underslung grenade launchers, etc)…nothing that’s essential, but all stuff that helps (i cant imagine a Rhett w/o a front grip, but that’s just me)
