Message to splashDamage

Most of my interventions on the forum are here to grumble. English is not my maternal language and when I take the time to write a post, it’s because I want criticize something to have a better thing.
What I think now, is that it should be depressing for you, splash damage, to read a lot of complaints.

So I want to tell you that if I’m still here, it’s because I found that you already did a great work/game.
Probably like all the other moaners of this forum, if I grumble, it’s because I want a perfect game as ET/ETQW was for me.
I imagine that you already know that, but it seem important to say it at least once.

So for once time, I will list some elements that I love with this game :

  • Character design.
  • UI.
  • Audio.
  • Low spread wepons (in comparison of next gen fps).
  • Fast movements (in comparison of next gen fps)
  • Objectives (even if I would prefer class objectives)
  • Mercs.
  • Teamplay.
  • Weapons and abilities.
  • New kind of movements (walljump and the future longjump).
  • Options (toggle iron sight, fov, etc).
  • To be able to select a grenade, knife or ability like a weapon.
  • Your presence on the forum.
  • No dash knife.
  • No auto aim for objectives and ammo/health pack (I don’t like this in Brink)

Ok, now I can complain again about the absence of strafe jump

damn, this post is so… positive…

-upd-
i agree with most things listed.
exept for Objectives.
i realy loved some objectives in ETQW and ET - they were exciting, fun, risky., and there are literaly 2 objects in Xt, that i like. among all 5+ maps.

Oftentimes people forget that posititve feedback is important too. It reaffirms the dev’s initial assumptions that the playerbase as a whole is enjoying X, meaning that they may even be able to dedicate time to expanding upon that feature further. It’s far too easy to develop tunnel vision and only focus on the issues in a title.

Great thread Erkin31!

Yeah, I know a lot of Indie Developers who say they never visit their own forums and such because it is just depressing to see constant complaints. Which is a shame, because it is nice to see developers care and listen.

It’s important for developers to remember that people are easily bothered to complain, and rarely bothered to praise. XT/DB I believe will be a very great game when it’s finished. But there is still a lot more potential for it I hope can get filled.

my biggest complain now is that the objectives are not class objectives.

I’m a noob but I have tons of fun when I play =)

Happily SD doesn’t seem to be one of those companies. In fact, it’s absolutely fantastic to see that so many members of staff actually have forum accounts(which isn’t always the case), with some members of the dev team posting on a regular basis. Two thumbs up!

Always good to hear that self proclaimed noobs are having fun, especially in a game with such a high skill ceiling :).

Booted up BF4 for the first time in like 2 months for some '“dumb fun”. Dice certainly got the “dumb” bit nailed down.

So after a few weeks of feeling like DB is in a really rough state and needs plenty of TLC, I completely withdraw this opinion and replace it with “Genuinely already better and more fun than BF4 and it DLCs!”

You are doing a great job guys and girls at Splash Damage, keep up the good work!
