Meshes and hard shadows.

I’m using some mesh wire (barbwire.md3) for borders around my map. The meshes are casting solid black shadows, which looks horrible, considering that the mesh is just a cylinder with a wire texture on it. Is there any way to turn off shadows for specific meshes ? Even better, can I get a soft shadow effect instead ?

You need the two lines:

surfaceparm trans
surfaceparm alphashadow

in your texture shader file. Trans will stop the big block shadow effect, alpha trans will make the lighting pahse attempt to cast shadows in the shape of the fence (will need a high resolution lightmap to see any great detail)

Thanks for the help, but I’ve already gotten around the prob by changing the mesh from a misc_model, into a misc_gamemodel. Gamemodels don’t have shadows I believe. :slight_smile:
