Mercs speaking in native language.

(TheStrangerous) #1

Why not? An option like that should be available.
That is, if the subs work when mercs speak, not just announcers. This would make the game more immersive and authentic.

That goes to Skyhammer too, since there is a Scottish Gaelic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Gaelic

Always wanted to learn Spanish, and if I play Phoenix long enough, I know I will!

Please no.
Part of the draw to Dirty Bomb is that merc commentary is absolutely hilarious. If you can’t understand what they’re saying, then what’s the point. Besides, subtitles would be distracting as hell.
The game isn’t supposed to be immersive and authentic, it’s supposed to be fun and cartoony, that’s why all the mercs sound like half crazy clowns.

And in a real war, why would you want to speak Scottish Gaelic and have no one understand you. If anything that would be even less immersive and authentic.
It’s better to stick to one language everyone knows.

I don’t even need subtitles.
I don’t care if I don’t understand what Arty says in Mandarin or Proxy says in monkey language.
I agree it be a great feature, just don’t make it too much (maybe 10-20% of all the merc’s voice lines will be in their language)
I know some mercs already have some voice lines not in English, but there’s only a few.

Splash Damage pls moar vois lains

Some mercs actually has lines in their native language, but adding more for the sake of hilariousness isn’t bad either.

I want to hear Thunder swearing in Russian but with forceful accent lmao

(TheStrangerous) #5

Kira has “Kawaii” but not “YAMEROOOOO!!!”.

Blasphemy!

(AlbinMatt) #6

Last time a game did this, I got invaded by aliens, and had every country pull out their funding. Multi-national diversity for world peace? No

(ostmustis) #7

they live in london and talk to each other, why would they use their native tongue? :>

(K1X455) #8

If it spoke in my native language, there will be too many cuss words being said…

(AlbinMatt) #9

@K1X455
Cyka Blyat!
Scheisse!
Kurwa!
El puta!

Not quite enough.

I can’t believe the filters caught Polish and Spanish swears, but not Russian or German ones.

I know, just the other day when I was running around fighting off enemies left and right, and anxiously arming the objective, I thought to myself “Man, it’d be great if I had something else I had to look at right now”

:*

Some mercs have quotes in their native language: Aimee has words in french, Turtle some words in Turkish, Nader some very German, Arty some Chinese, Kira some Japanese, Phoenix a little bit of Spanish, (no Sparks or Thunder native dialogue, interesting considering their identity crisis’s) and everyone else has basically English as a first language. I think it would be awesome if there were more, but to be honest i don’t think there’s anyway to get the voice actors back in for another 20 minutes of weird character noises and dialogue.

@Brycko

It might be possible to either replace the existing voice actors or hire them again. SD has already done aesthetic overhauls with maps, weapons, character designs, and voices.

Dockyard recently replaced existing Jackal and CDA voices, Turtle originally had a British accent, and a voice actor had been turned away at some point.

Nader some very German
More like a Russian pretending to speak German.

(Wolf_Darkrose) #14

@TheStrangerous ya BF1 does that great BUT with dirtybomb it would be faaar to easy to get an advantage off it i think. since most the big heavy and strong mercs are not native english aka arty’thunder and aimee if im right BUT it would be nice until you find out 90% are based in the UK or france.

Regardless you might want to spell it correctly: “Scheiße”. And I’d expect Russian swears to use Cyrillic.
