[Mercenary Idea] Steeljaw (The Nade Eater)

In the years leading up to the DB conflicts there were wars, one man, a US soldier risked his life so that another 12 could go on. Martin “Steeljaw” Jones threw himself onto a grenade to save the lives of evacuating citizens, thankfully with the advanced ballistics protection at the time, Steeljaw didn’t suffer any damage to his major arteries, however, Steeljaw was left with “no jaw”. Luckily he was assigned to evacuate citizens from a prominent research facility, filled to the brim with medical scientists and engineers. These scientists saved Steeljaw’s life, stopping the bleeding and constructing a literal “steel jaw” where his original one was blown off. Steeljaw didn’t know where to go afterwards, his new cybernetic “enhancements” seemed more like a curse, rejected by his fellow officers, his girlfriend, and worst of all, his own family.

With nothing to loose and some money to be earned, Steeljaw joined the DB mercs for forge his own living. Meet Steeljaw, an unexpected convenience when it comes to explosives.

Steeljaw has 150HP and 385SP.

Primary Ability - Steeljaw
(Toggle on/off) Pressing Q opens Steeljaw’s mouth, movement speed is dropped to 375SP, pressing Q again closes it. Steeljaw can eat up to two explosions, each explosion eaten takes 30 seconds to digest, once digested, Steeljaw can eat more explosions. If Steeljaw is killed while digesting, he explodes, leaving himself unable to be revived. Each second an explosion is being digested, 2HP is regenerated which means a maximum of 120HP can be regenerated.

More importantly, when Fragger shouts “Eat Pineapple!”, I can finally take him literally and win.

I reckon. There should be a quotes when Steeljaw kills a Fragger. “Nade fuel can’t melt Steeljaws”, or " If you can’t catch it, don’t throw".

I’d buy Steeljaw just for that!

Have you considered an ability to regurgitate eaten explosives? You still have to wait out the rest of the 30 seconds on the explosion-eating cooldown, you lose the health regeneration from that one eaten explosion, but you can barf out slightly stronger Nader nades on demand in return. Plus, it prevents you from exploding on death if you barf all of 'em out before you drop.

This, plus removing the ammo pack and packing in assault rifles, would make a damn good Assault merc.

I don’t think his character really suits ARs especially with such high health but I’ve definitely though about regurgitating explosions. I think I might update it once I think of a character-fitting way to implement it.

Love the idea except for the part of eating airstrike markers, I wouldn’t get happy having to wait another minute to throw another airstrike.

Maybe when airstrike markers are aten a slight reduction in cd for Skyhammer?

Ps: I would actually love seeing a merc eat Kira her laser xD

I think it would only eat the marker itself, stopping the explosion and treating it like just another nade. The airstrike itself would still be called in.

Btw, when activating his ability maybe also give him some resistance to explosives so that a cooked fragger nade won’t instantly blow him to a million pieces.

Only against fragger nades though before you’ll be seeing a guy rampage through all explosives :stuck_out_tongue:

@sensitiveJellyfish for Skyhammer, only the markers are eaten, Airstrikes are still called in because Steeljaw can’t eat unexploded explosives.
