[Mercenary] Bull

(Fyrix) #1

“1… 2… 3… CHARGE!”

[Aesthetic Aspects]: Bull should look and have the same body type as Phantom. On one arm he should have large amounts of Kevlar style padding. On the other arm it should be much slimmer. His face should have a black beanie/wooly style hat, some sort of sunglasses on and then a bandana or something similar around his face.

[Backstory]: A former Afro-American American Football player, Bull has a short-temper an is extremely angry. Using old police riot gear, he’s here to make some money.

[Primary Ability]: Riot Shield - Bull’s primary ability is a deployable riot-shield. When standing and walking, his feet will be exposed. When crouching, it should cover most, if not all, of his body but leave his back open. There is a small gap for him to use his secondary weapon. This ability works in the same cooldown as Rhino’s minigun. If the shield sustains too much damage (it has a large HP) then the ability will be lost until he can re-use it again.

You can preform a charge down when sprinting for more than 2-3 seconds. This is where you can “build-up momentum” and then Bull will tuck up into his shield and sprint at a fairly fast rate. His turn is very poor whilst in this state but he runs as fast as Proxy/Aura/Sparks. Any enemy that is hit by this shield will lose 40 HP and will be knocked to the floor momentarily. This class is used as the battering ram when going for an objective and to provide cover for other team-mates.

When using the riot shield, the secondary weapon or melee weapon is equip-able.

[Play-style]: Bull is a rush style character. He’ll run into an objective with his shield up. He should take the front of the damage whilst giving a distraction or time for other mercenaries to get into a room. He can also soak up some damage.

[Countering Bull]: Bull will have his back exposed. His feet are also exposed whilst walking or standing still. When crouched, he is full covered - but if you get behind him and use your speed against him, you can get behind him. He also can turn very well whilst charging with his riot shield, so once he passes shoot him in the back. Avoid him running into you. Explosives and Stokers incendiary grenade is a good way to get rid of him or his shield.

[Primary Weapons]:
M4A1 - Assault Rifle for versatile combat styles, multi-purpose.
BR-16 - Burst Assault rifle for longer ranges
Crotzni - Short range Engagement SMG

[Secondary Weapons]:
DE. 50
M9
Empire-9

[Melee Weapons]:
Standard Combat Knife
Stiletto Knife

Police Baton - A unique weapon to Bull. It has a slightly higher damage model to the cricket bat and preforms slightly the same.

I like this idea!

Riot shields have been over-suggested, and given the explosives and fast-paced nature of the game, a merc with a riot shield would die very quickly.

(Fyrix) #4

Unlikely, the riot sheild gives protection and absored splash damage from explosives. Like most items, excesssive damage to the shield would cause it to be lost and a cool down initiated. The only thing that would kill him quickly is tactics, the same with any mercenary.

Someone like stoker if he got his incendairy down would flush a “Bull” out.

Also, explosives would work similar to the concussive state. If bull is facing the grenade, he suffers no/little damage. If he is facing away or its under him, he’ll take regularly damage.

and the reason people wouldn’t instinctively throw their explosives behind Bull is…?

hand grenades - a little less cooking time for it to explode a little after passing Bull
nade launcher - doesnt work very well when you try to launch it over the shield, but the sheer spammability of the nade launcher could almost guarantee immediate depletion of the shield’s hp in a single volley
stickies - usually you try to stick these on people. usually, you should also try to flank with fletcher. even if you dont, though, you can stick them on the floor or on walls and hold the detonator while waiting for people to walk past them.
proxy mines - its on the floor
airstrikes, artillery strikes, orbital lazor - the end

most turret placements that aim to catch enemies unaware also could me places so the turret only fires at enemies’ backs, like around a door or a corner. Bull walks into a room, and there’s a turret blasting into his side. if he wants to turn, he’s exposing his other side and his back to anyone in the room

I never said any of that wouldn’t happen? You just named the whole balance.

Whilst all of that occurs his sheild may go down and all of the mercenaries in the room have wasted ammo/support abilities and can now rush on them.

Not to mention he can storm in etc. You could also make melee attacks used by the shield when it is up.

It’d be balanced easily.

People despised the katana upon release: yelling that this game “Isn’t chivalry” … So a dude running in a straight line like reinhardt from Overwatch might just annoy people. Also, after a charge, that character WILL get murdered by the enemy team. - Just like Phantom is now if he tries to run in.

(Fyrix) #8

Thats the point, his charges should be timed and calculated. He should get murdered if he runs in alone and his shield goes. He’s meant to take the forefront of damage and then allow his team members to filter in.
