Merc Skins: Other Than Color Change Ones?

(jjpdn) #1

Title.

Has the developers ever said anything about making (more) things like that?
Like, for example, the Founders skins?

They haven’t, but plenty of us have been asking for them.

Personally I’m sick of seeing re-skinned themes now. Adding some mild changes can’t be too bad. People are arguing that it might make the mercs too had to tell apart, but I don’t think it will. Some of the skins in Overwatch for example make the same merc look like an entirely different character.

Well that isn’t exactly a fair comparison, a free to play game vs a pay to own game with a name like blizzard behind it.

Plus when you look at both games…Overwatch is quite cartoon like and has more to work with than just humans.

Not saying they shouldn’t do it for DB, it would be nice…but you have two very different beasts here…especially when one of them is blizzard, who puts a lot of time into their cash shops…even on pay to play based games.

That doesn’t have anything to do with what I was getting at though. The point I was trying to make is that I don’t really think a variety of shirts or hats or uniforms is going to make mercs unrecognisable. Most mercs are easy to pick out based on their size and stance alone. DB could easily do it. I just think the whole “they will be too hard to tell apart” argument is kinda void.

Even though the qualities of the game aren’t that nice, here’s an example for a F2P game: League of Lose…Legends. Is a F2P game with cosmetic skins for real money that are alternative models of characters.

As TF2 and DotA have shown us, people like to pay to dress up and look pretty in a game. Dunno why Splash don’t split the cosmetic and loadout system and capitalise on this instead of relying on whales to buy cases.

There actually exists about 5 cards for Skyhammer, Sawbonez, Fragger, Vassili, and Proxy that change their appearance significantly.
Unfortunately they’re for people who bough the Founders Packs YEARS ago.
In old concept shots I’ve seen, there’s a version of Arty that looks like he just came back from a Deus Ex convention, and the back of the Fragger steam trading card makes him look like he’s pulling off a Gordon Freeman look (which I’d pay any amount of money to see as a model ingame)

On the topic of being able to tell which merc is which? There’s a few things about every merc that’s sorta unique to their design that you could tell them apart despite changing a few things.

The Founders Skyhammer gives him a skull balaclava but you can still tell its him due to things like the weapon he’s using or his backpack radio. Founders Fragger just gives him a Helmet, he still has his insanely oversized backpack.

I’m sure we could change Nader up a bit but as long as we keep her collection of grenade cylinders on her back we can tell its her.

Founders Proxy has red hair, very nice
