[Merc] Shard

(gg2ez) #1

Meet Shard, the Polish powerhouse that deals god-like AoE damage.

Shard is an ex-military soldier. During her career she rose to high ranks within the army due to her skill in combat. When the DB conflicts came around, Shard jumped at the opportunity to use her skills the make loads more money, and so, Shard joins the mercs in their crusade for credits!

Shard has 120HP and 410SP. Her loadouts favour SMGs, Pistols, and regular melee.

Primary Ability - Shrapnel Grenade
Shard tosses down a Shrapnel Grenade with a fuse of 3s. Upon detonation, the SG will explode and propel an extremely large number of small pellets that deal damage to either Shard or the enemy (basically like a 360° shotgun with a LOT of pellets). Cooldown of 17 seconds applies, only 1 at a time. This ability makes Shard a real beast when dealing with enemies in corridors providing she has her own cover so that she won’t get hit. The pellets suffer from serious damage falloff so it shouldn’t be too OP to start with.

Just another quick idea, discuss

Its eems good but there is one problem, and thats the shards.
it woul generate ABUSIVE amounts of lag for anyone with a ping above 90.
how about a arge radius with medium damage?

I have no knowledge of where you learnt about server properties, or if that statement was just an assumption but it wouldn’t affect lag any differently to how a regular frag grenade would, the only difference between the two is that a Shrapnel Grenade is a hitscan weapon.

Just in case you don’t know what hitscan weapons are, I shall elaborate. You know how when you fire a shot at someone, and it instantly does damage to them without delay? That is hitscanning. Basically, hitscanning means that as soon as you click the “fire” button, the server will decide what you hit in accordance to bullet spread.

Basically what the Shrapnel Grenade does is generate hitscans as soon as it explodes.

Saying that it will generate lag for players with ping over 90 is like saying that everyone in a server firing a gun at the same time will create lag (it won’t). It was a reasonable concern though

Pros? @astoundingShellfish

@gg2ez Yeah sorry i went chekcing soem time ago. and it woudl onyl generat elag if they ahd acutaly travelt iem and that stuff. neer mdn then
BR TOURGUE APROVES THI SHIT!

The shrapnel nade seems a lot like fraggers grenade

(gg2ez) #6

@wolvie A little bit. Diffences include almost unlimited range (like firing a shotgun), no cooking, no bouncing (only rolling), lower damage at range, ect.

Other than that it is like Fragger’s Nades.

I think it could create frame-rate problems for people with lower builds, if you wanted to add texture to every single piece of shrapnel, maybe some people would even take to abuse this and getting a team of 6 - 7 Shards and throwing shrapnel grenades in hopes of crashing peoples game.

Other than that it seems like a really solid merc, apart from may be the similarities between her and Fragger

@sentimentalDime If you scroll up a bit, you will see me explaining the fact that the Shrapnel Nade is a hitscan weapon and how it won’t create lag. Since lots of surfaces in DB don’t actually show a bullet mark when shot, there shouldn’t be any problems (depends on how it’s done). As for texturing, go to Bridge and shoot the road, that’s the only effect you’ll see - just the impact holes.

@gg2ez No, i meant if you were to add an animation and texture for each one of the pieces of shrapnel, there might be too much going on on the screen for a lower end GPU to handle.

@sentimentalDime I believe you cannot texture a hitscan projectile.

@gg2ez The bullets you fire from your gun are textured as a yellow line, if you were to do that with maybe 100 of those it could definetely cause frame-rate issues.

The minigun shoots hundreds of little yellow lines in seconds and I see no problem, even on my laptop.

(sentimentalDime) #13

@derpypenguinz19 Guess you’ve got a point there, didn’t think of that, well, that erases the problem i saw with it, so as i said earlier, seems like a nice addition to the game

(Bestfinlandball) #14

Yeah the minigun causes 0 problems and my pc specs are s*it
Intel i3 dual core 3.3ghz, CeForce 605 1024mb graphics card and 6gb ram

(Bestfinlandball) #15

Then again i run sick6 newb’s config
