[Merc] Nightmare

Speed: 420 (you know what that means!)
Sex: Male
Nationality: Romanian

Story

Doctor Alexandru Petran (a surgeon) always liked to watch his patients fall sleep. There was something about them. Relaxed, calm… Oblivious to what he was doing. His fetishes eventually got him banned from any form of medical practice, however, this did not stop him. Dr Petran moved to the underground, producing drugs and carrying out his fantasies in illegal private practice.
When he heard about Jackal, he saw his chance.
“I love to put people to sleep. Now I have the chance to put them to sleep forever”
(I know it ain’t much but the general idea is he is a weirdo.

Primary Ability - Modified Dart Gun
This tranquilliser gun shoots darts, with Nightmare’s own concoction of sleeping drugs. It gives a blurry, darkened vision effect the enemy it hits and movement speed will be slowed to a maximum of 20%. It takes 1 second for the full effect to be reached and lasts another 3 seconds.
Maximum Number of Darts: 3
Recharge: every 10 seconds

I think some useful ones could be Sneaky, Untrackable, Get Up, Enigma.

My idea for this character was support based, but the kind of support that let’s you target or slightly disable certain enemies, but only if your aim is true. His ability doesn’t do any damage but I think it should almost completely disable the victims vision. I was thinking of maybe having an ability where he throws out a grenade that let’s of hallucinagenant which makes enemies roll around on the ground or moves uncontrollably (like they are scared and are seeing things) but decided against it.

There have been a few games that have toyed with the idea of neurotoxin, my fav use however is having people not being able to distinguish friend from foe and turning on friendly fire for the affected player. Back to your idea, i like the idea of screwing with peeps vision but your merc is severely lacking as a medic, your merc needs some means to heal teammates who arent down, other than that im all for it

I was thinking maybe Recon as a variation but a game doesn’t need that many recons (or maybe it does, who am I to know). Thanks for suggestion @PleasantWheat fun games earlier today.

Time for my weekly picking-apart of mercs… oh… wait… This is actually not bad.

The ability listed reminds me a bit like thunder’s current (as of this post) flash nades.

While people complained in the past about thunder’s mouse-sensitivity change effects per nade, I wonder if the same complaints will include the slow effect. - Long jumping would still be an option, even under the effects of the dart, so I’m unsure of the usefulness.

A possible bonus would be to deafen the player under the dart’s effects. Sound is quite important in dirty bomb, so being unable to hear an incoming airstrike or de-cloaking phantom may be detrimental to an enemy. - Fun idea.

@Naonna how about even slurred or even misleading sounds (including your characters delirious voice). For example constant rumbling, or the sounds of other mercs even screaming ect. Would that work in your opinion?

I like most of this. My issue is that your support class doesn’t really support. You can Defib, but that’s nothing special. I do, however, like the idea of shooting a dart gun. So why not something like this… Your dart gun works like a shotgun with a slug in it rather than buckshot. If you shoot a friendly it heals something like 40-45, and if you shoot an enemy they lose about the same amount of health. Reduced by range similar to a shotgun so that it’s not some op boomstick. Might even have a max range on the med kits so you aren’t op across the map healing. 4 darts, same as the number of kits sparks has, but with 12 second cooldown (sparks kits heal 30 and take 10 seconds where as these will give the 40 in addition to the instant direct heal bonus of 10 but a chance to miss if your ally moves). Maybe it can be walked over and work like a regular medkit if it misses or maybe if you mess up oh well.

As for the visual effects and all that… They could do that… but they’d have to dip the damage. I think a fun alternative would be for the screen to bug out like some bad acid trip for a second or two. As for the slowing effect… It would have to be comparable to the conc grenade or weaker. Any more than that is bad. This is a movement heavy game. While I like the dynamic of giving the players a shock with a sudden slow down every once in a while they shouldn’t add much if any more of it to the game otherwise it would be damaging to the gameplay.

Instead of healing teamates the same dart gun could be used to raise their speed, accuracy ,max health, etc for a few seconds

People seem to have REALLY big problems with buffs like that.
Speed because that could easily be abused to give sanic like speed to mercs like proxy
Never seen anyone suggest an accuracy buff
Max health because its essentially giving mercs try hard without them dying

I kind of meant something random and controled so giving only 1 buff to each merc for a few seconds and have it randomized by hiw each merc is (so we have no sanic proxys or unkillable rhinos)

Maybe a bonus effect is the game hiding information such as amount of health remaining, the REALISTIC BLOODY SCREEN from getting too injured as well as the damage direction marker because tranquilizer rounds?

Also I think this is probably better off as an assault, but that’s just me.
