Tank, the Shieldmaiden

[Concept Art to go Here]

Name: Lovise “Tank” Vollan
Class: Medic
Health: 200
Speed: 345
Objective: Normal
Origin: Norway
Gender: Female

Profile:

Blah blah I’ll fill it in later.

Abilities:

  • Riot Shield
Primary Ability. Activating the Riot Shield allows Tank to bring the shield out off of her back and carry it. This takes two seconds, during which the Riot Shield block a small angle in front of Tank. After the abilities’ deployment time, the Shield will extend to either side, absorbing damage from a larger angle in front of the Merc. The Riot Shield takes reduced damage from Explosives, and absorbs this damage at any angle.

Tank’s Riot Shield can only take so much damage before Tank needs to rest. When this damage threshold is exceeded, Tank will flinch, lowering her shield. During both the Flinch and Deployment, Tank is unable to fire her weapons, or deactivate Riot Shield. During the Flinch, Riot Shield does not absorb damage from any angle, leaving Tank vulnerable to attack. Tank does not suffer a movement speed penalty for having her Shield activated.

Tank cannot use her primary weapon while Riot Shield is active, and cannot aim down sights with her secondary while its active.

Tank is able to charge with her shield by activating sprint. When Charging, Tank lowers her active weapon, and retracts the side panels on her shield before charging. Any foe that Tank strikes while charging is pushed backwards and Tank stops sprinting. Tank takes a moment to undeploy her shield in preperation for a charge, and has to slowly build up momentum before she can do so.

Tank is able to Melee with her Riot Shield, her Riot Shield has similar stats to the Katana – including wind up time and damage, but with a smaller range.

Whenever Tank’s Riot Shield is not active, it remains in its undeployed state on her back, offering the same protection as it did in the forward Deployment state. Tank can be Flinched while the Riot Shield is not equipped.
• Small Medic Bag
Secondary Ability. Functionally the same as SPARKS’ Small Medic Pack.
Default Inventory

Primary:
Either Shotguns or Operator Weapons

Secondary:
Semi Auto Pistols.

Melee:
Combat Knife

Creator Thoughts

I made Tank while thinking about the drawbacks of the Riot Shield in the game Battlefield 4. The Gadget there is useless because it disables all weapons when in use, offers poor coverage, and the glass is able to be broken by any explosive or Sniper Rifle – both of which are far too common in the game. It offers no unique gameplay and doesn’t offer even half decent protection for the cost of carrying the gadget.

Of course, this being Dirty Bomb, I thought how interesting a Mobile Cover or tanky pusher would be for the current game modes, forcing players to flank or be creative with their abilities to counter her rather than just spraying at their targets until it died.

I originally copied Rhino’s stats before I realized that his movement speed is compensated for by the range on his Minigun, which is why I increased Tank’s movement speed by 20.

She fills the assault role in an odd way, not by front loading an immense amount of damage, but by controlling and manipulating cover and offering a superior platform for dealing consistent and steady damage while still pulling the kind of attention that an Assault character would get in a competitive match.

Because of how ‘Anti Assault’ she is, she may function better as an Engineer or a Fire Support if she were given an Ammo Bag. Maybe even a Medic if she were given a Med bag.

With more thought on the Subject, I’ve settled on making her a Medic. The Riot Shield plays into the Medic playstyle of preventing team death, instead of reviving, she works by intercepting damage in critical choke points or objectives, allowing her teammates to use her large Hit Box and Shield as cover.

I like the idea of an engineer than can take up damage when working on an objective and can be more of a team support by holding a shield but it also makes me curious as to how Turtle will work in an instance like this, maybe the main difference would be the obvious carried shield and deployable one, but thats nothing new with ammo and health, hope for the best.

I’m not so sure they’ll use the way Turtle was in closed Beta if what I’ve heard about him is correct. Putting down a barrier creates problems with Choke points.

Tank +Rhino + Aura or Sawbonez= easy win(Tank will be the shield,Rhino has the firepower and Aura and Sawbonez revive or give hp. Add tank plz

I would like a defensive tank, a tank that sucks at attacking SO ITS NOT OP !!!
But really good at defense, ahem deployable shield ahem.

Glad people love Tank, Big Girls need love too. Seems no one likes Achilles though :stuck_out_tongue:

I keep seeing Riot shield characters I’d much rather see a deploy-able cover shield. Some sort of one way cover IDK how, but lets your team shoot through while soaking dmg. Breaks after being shot enough.

Sure a riot shield would be a nice part of their kit, but I like the stay and hold side of the game more.

perhaps the placeable shield can make her more useful on the defending team side.

There’s an unrealeased merc named Turtle who had a deplyable barricade. He’s probably coming soon, given that the unreleased mercs from the E3 trailer (Phoenix and Turtle) are coming next.
