Merc Idea: Smog

(inscrutableShow) #1

Name: Smog

Sex: Male

Nationality: Brooklyn New Yorker, REALLY heavy accent

Role: Fire Support

Story: Once a prominent member of the NYPD, Smog was thrown off of the force after he was “convicted” of membership in the organization responsible for the Dirty Bomb incident. It’s not true, but lawyers specialize in raining explosions on careers. With nowhere else to go, Smog raided the NYPD headquarters armory and ran for it. He ended up in London, doing grunt work. It sucks to play foot-soldier for people you’re supposed to have helped blow up a city, but it puts food in the fridge. Smog’s seen the author of his woes on a few of his missions, but he hasn’t hit her yet. Never was much of a marksman.

Weapons:

Primary: SMG-9, Remburg, Hollunds

Secondary: Tolen MP, DE.50, Simeon .357

Melee: Police Baton(Gives concussion effect for three second on heavy strike), Beckhill, Stiletto.

Primary Ability: Tear Gas Grenade: This grenade has the area of Redeye’s smoke, but the transparency of the radio-active gases seen around the maps. Enemy mercs that run into the cloud are blinded. The effect lasts for two seconds after they exit the cloud. The EV is slowed down by 40% when it’s in the cloud.

Secondary Ability: Ammo Station

Playstyle: Smog is best at holding down small chokepoints. He gasses a hallway or room, then waits for the meat to come in. Anyone who tries to go through runs into a hail of gunfire(or buckshot).

I think that the tear gas should effect teammates as well (to a lesser degree), just like thunder’s concussion grenade.

I’m not so sure… it’s a good idea, I just think that a lighter version of Thunders Concussion effect and Stoker’s area denial/suppression is just too dang familiar. It could be different to Stoker’s area denial by making the cloud very difficult to see, thus more likely for enemies to run into, but otherwise they’ll just avoid it like Stoker’s Molotov until it fades away. Even then, I’m not sure how effective it would be, considering it doesn’t do any damage.

I’m with @Brycko on this one. most merc ideas are way overpowered, but this, although a good idea, simply wouldn’t be that good. Adjustment is needed, but you could do cool things with this

The idea is meh but just as @Dysfnal said, it needs more adjustments, it seems fair, even tough its like a combination between 2 mercs, i feel like hes ability is much more useful, since most Fire supports are better outdoors and we really need Fire supports that are good indoors.

I do like it. not sure about the melee weapon as it may foster reliance on it, like some who only play katana phantom. The gas is creative, though why not use something from the police armouries that no other mercs have: rubber bullets, water cannons, sound suppression devices. The list goes on.

Because it’s hard to smuggle water hoses out under your coat.

Seriously though, no other merc has tear gas.

yeah, but i see why people are comparing it to redeye. It’s a cool idea though.
