[Merc Idea] Quota

(soothingMallet) #1

Alias: Quota
Nationality: Russian
Gender Female
Class: Objective Specialist
Health: 100
Move speed: 425

Description: Quota originally worked in disaster aid, using a small drone in order to locate survivors of fallen buildings and earthquakes. when the Dirty Bomb incident occurred Quota’s team was killed, and her base, destroyed. Going into hiding to avoid suspicions from the police, Quota suddenly appeared out of nowhere among the merc database working with her modified drone for hire, looking for any bit of money to rebuild her team, and maybe come back to disaster aid when this incident blows over.

Appearance: Quota wears standard combat gear, carrying a satchel for both ammunition as well as her drones to use for objectives. Quota’s clothing consists of hiking pants, as well as a baggy sweater with the sleeves rolled up.

Abillity 1: Objective Drone (Active time: 8 seconds. Cooldown: 15 seconds): Quota can throw a Objective drone on generators as well as EVs, the drone can repair objectives at 75% the speed of non-objective specialist classes, Quota can stack the repair of the drone with her own repairs, the drone does not stack repair speed with any character but the quota that threw the drone. the drone has 5 health and is 150% the size of aimee’s snitch device and gives off a blue light when repairing, the light appears as red in the enemie’s eyes. The drone cannot plant C4, nor can it Defuse C4, however, the drone can be planted on a C4 objective and gives a 20% c4 plant speed to any mercs within 5 meters of the drone and does not have the objective specialist passive ability (this bonus overrides the mechanic perk). the Field drone will not operate if both Quota and an additional merc are repairing the same generator/EV. The objective drone does not stack with any additional drones planted on the objective.

Ability 2: Cooperative repair (passive): Quota can perform repairs alongside a single non-objective specialist merc or her drone, if a merc is already interacting with the EV/Generator, Quota will assist in repairs at 50% her usual speed alongside the merc. Quota will repair at 150% her normal speed if her drone is planted on the Generator/EV with no other mercs also interacting with the EV. Quota will not assist in repairs with Objective Specialist mercs.

(in order to balance out the 2 abilities stated above, Quota will have a repair speed of a non-objective specialist mercenary, and a C4 Plant speed of 5 seconds)

“and to think i used to save lives with this thing”

Weapons:
Primary
Hotchfir (default)
Ahnuld-12
SMG-9

Secondaries:
M9 (default)
Stelbstadt .40
Smjuth & whetsman

Melee:
Beckhill Combat Knife (default)
Cricket bat
Stilnotto stiletto

I think I’ll be sticking with the name Quota, since by the dictionary definition, goes along with her ability of having a set number of people, like a quota of 2 people on a EV.

Quotes:
3 enemies down - “oh my, I hope you three didn’t cost your employer too much”
5 enemies down - “5 down?! That cannot be good for self esteem”
Finishing enemies - “stay down and maybe I’ll bury your body later”
Repairing objective (solo) - “Somebody get over here and help me repair this objective!”
Repairing objective (drone) - “I’m repairing the objective! Cover me and the little bot while you’re at it dah?!”
Repairing objective (teammate) - “Shut up and keep working! I’m here to assist you on this”
Repairing objective (obj specialist passive) - “I’m sure you don’t need my help on this one…”
Calling Medic - “get me a medic that WILL heal me!”
Calling ammo - “where’s the ammo when you need it…”

Feel free to give constructive criticism.

Changed the name of the repair drone to objective drone and added a function to allow for buffing c4 planting speed to it as well to give more reason to use merc rather than just repairing generators.

These abilities are flat out awesome, though they seem to conflict with one another, and the drone could be overpowered, UNLESS you have it work like the recon deployables, where it would be destroyed after the cooldown ends, then it could be balanced

@Dysfnal you’re right about the abilities conflicting (it’s most likely because of my terrible wording) the main idea is that the merc relies solely on her passive of helping mercs repair. But if there is nobody there to assist her, than Quota still has access to her drone to assist her, it’s just that the drone only assists quota

Hopefully this clarifies things

This is also a merc that I thought up on the spot so I wasn’t really thinking about cool downs and active timers :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Also makes me glad that you think it’s awesome =D

Adding this merc to the game would make her a MUST pick in any competitive game including an EV. Casuals may not always focus on the objective, but for teams who do, the fact that 2 people would be able to repair the EV at once trumps any damage output from any of the other engie abilities.

Repairing from a distance seems a bit much. Consider that throwing this behind a stalled EV, if the team even notices it, would only be destroy-able by explosive users: made more problematic that for the most part, mercs which disable the EV with airstrikes (exc.) have a rather large cool down between uses. - If they use a strike to destroy this deployable, then they may be left without a way to stop the EV with their ability, due to timing.

While the idea of a merc to break stalemates in some game modes are nice, it only really would be efficient on EV’s: not great for maps such as dome, which do not rely on that game mechanic. - The frustration of being forced to kill an easily-replaceable deploy-able which on its own can turn games, without teamwork interaction, could also be a fun-killer against unskilled or uncoordinated teams (pubs.)

@Naonna actually it woudn’t become a must because this merc only specialises in repairing objectives whereas other engineers specialise in area denial and defending areas, like proxys mines or bushwhackers turret and for offense flecthers sticky bombs.

Totally useless on terminal

@Naonna would that situation really be more difficult than killing a proxy sitting behind an EV? Proxy may be a bigger target, but she’d repair faster, and if she was crouching, would be just as difficult to hit, and has more health. The only problem would be getting to the EV, but that’s where this merc would shine, also being able to protect her means of repair while it happens. The proxy would have to bob and weave and hope to not get shot, whereas the device would only need line of sight. Not to mention the lack of an offensive or defensive ability, which is significant. I’m not entirely sure if the competitive scene would be affected quite as much either, many teams would probably prefer the extra killing potential of a Fletcher over the slow passive repair of Quota.

And Fragger would probably have a shorter cooldown, which would make him great against the drone, it’s not really a broken mechanic (get it, mechanic, cause repairs)

bit too focused on EV maps. hell, even underground has some spots with access to the sky so fire supports other than stoker can use their abilities, and underground is the only map so far that takes place completely indoors

hell, a lot of “indoor” spots on the other maps have missing roofs, too for some tactical lazors or arties.

by the way, side note, underneath the EV is considered “indoors” for the airstrike marker, its weird.

Did a little work with quota, specifically that her drone gives a plant speed bonus to nearby non objective mercs (20% increase). And fixed the wording on the drone to explain how it works better

Also added a few quotes
