Merc Idea: Gregor

(_retired_) #1

Gregor (Grigori/Grue)

Class: Recon
Hit points: 120
Speed: 400

Gregor is former GRU (russian military intelligence) officer. He is “fighting kind” of recon.
Main armament is As Val/VSS Vintorez type of assault rifle that can be used from close to mid range. It has good damage, is fully automatic but has only 20 clip magazine. It also features scope so it can be used even as poor man’s sniper rifle.

Ability 1: Area alert
When Gregor activates this ability he is able to sense if someone in the area is activating his special ability (airstrikes etc.). He will get warning about the nature of the danger (type) and informs automatically the rest of the team (=watch out for airstrikes! example).

Ability 2: Watchful eye
Gregor will get warning when someone is targeting him or his close proximity. Giving him extra time to react/seek cover. This works best against snipers. With this ability Gregor will see extra info from the opponent team members he is currently directly seeing. This includes health in numbers, ammo and possible cooldowns of abilities. This info isn’t submitted to other team members.

Appearance:
Gregor’s face is partially deformed, most likely already as a child because his parents lived close to the area of Chernobyl. Gregor carries his father’s Soviet Union era peaked cap into the combat for good luck.

I dig the Area Alert thing, but Watchful Eye sounds like a bit much. It would be better as a passive. It pops up an arrow in the direction of any enemy whose crosshairs are on you.

Possibly so. Thanks for your comment.

Two more questions:

1.) For deployables, will Area Alert reveal their locations? This would be rather useful to help the team flush them out.
2.) Is there a limit to what Abilities are revealed? Do we really need an alert for every single ammo pack the enemy Fire Supports drop? Gregor will really take the time to warn about some asshole with a jetpack taking flight?

Idea of Gregor is that he is kind of alarm bell able to gather useful information from various sources including dead team mates and look for other signs which would keep the team more safe than without those warnings. He’s more of “defensive threat analyst” rather than “there they are, let’s go kill them!” type.

Grue means also to shiver = He’s got cold chills =something bad is going to happen rather than necessarily specific data/information about enemy positions.
I think it’s more of balance issue so it wouldn’t turn to be OP but he should still be useful.

The whole point of alarms is to warn about those that are threatening especially right now. Whether it would include just things similar to airstrikers or also grenades/jetpacks taking off is really matter of consideration…

Originally I thought that there would be kind of “threat level” which Gregor could then communicate to other team members. But that I thought is too vague. There could be even possibilty to hightlight specific dangers like “there’s a sniper who has killed already two team members!” and maybe Gregor could have information about “general area” where that sniper might be. But that is information that players can share with each other anyway.

Watchful eye BTW would give just warning (similar which informs that you are in heartbeat sensor) when someone is aiming towards Gregor. It would also give only info about those mercs that Gregor sees directly in front of him or who he has on his own sights.

Like I have said, I don’t really have the specifics about any of the abilities since they require lot of consideration when it comes to their usefulness and balance. Some of these things might not be even possible in the game or would require too complicated system.

BTW, I like the jetpack character.
