[Merc idea] Barrow

Basic idea, the merc would have a Hunting Bow, here’s some stats

Name: Barrow

Health: 120 HP

Speed: 410

Primary Ability: Hunting Bow with an explosive tip that does low damage

Secundary Ability: Throwing knives

Little backstory:

Native from England, Barrow grew up in the Alice Holt forest and got used to hunting to survive and help his family out. Already in his 30s when the Radioactive incident happened, Barrow saw an opportunity in the mercenary life. He geared up, modified his Bow’s arrows a bit and the rest is history.

Stats on his exclusive weapons

Hunting Bow:

Bodyshot Damage: 65 (45 and 35 in the leg and arm respectively)
Headshot Damage: 95
Explosion tip damage: 25 (No matter what)

The Hunting Bow comes equipped with Explosive Tip arrows that have a fuse of 4 seconds and only explode if they are stuck in a wall/merc (If the merc is killed with the shot, the tip of the arrow won’t explode as well for balancing issues)
It is an ability, and comes equipped with 4 arrows that will recharge over time (9 seconds for each arrow)

You need to “charge” the bow in order to shoot it (Takes about 0.8 seconds)
The bow’s arrows will have an arc of course. The bow also is equipped with a sight.
(Damn I used the word equipped alot in there)

Throwing Knives:
Basic throwing knives that are already on the game but never got a use, so I thought a stealthy and “hunter” merc would fit them.

Damage: 30 (40 on the head)

It’s an ability so it also has a recharge time, Barrow initially has 2 and each one has a recharge time of 6 seconds

Hunter’s Knife:
Simple knife where the Slash attack is way quicker than a cricket bat with the “Quick Slash” augment and does low damage while the “Heavy” attack will do enough damage to kill a proxy in one hit, but at the same time it is really slow.

seems Balanced to paly maybe a little weak on the bow. does it have an arc/travel time?

A bow and arrow would work better as a primary, tbh.

A bow might actually be an interesting ability, if we had different variations of arrows with different debuffs, and maybe even an arrow with recon properties. The E and Q keys could even be used for switching arrows back and forth.
I always wanted to be Green Arrow in DB.

But I do find the throwing knives ability a bit pointless.

Hit boxes for flying objects can be a bit odd. They’re treated as having space, so too big a hit box, and you get the lucksman (huntsman weapon) from tf2. Too small, and they’ll never actually hit. I’ve struggled with deciding on how I feel about arrows in games. The arc involved decides its max range. Speed controls how much tracking and foresight is involved. Usually, a lower speed means a larger hit box. It’s an odd situation to balance and make fun to fight against.

The explosive and delayed damage of the arrow after impact encourages what, exactly? Head shots? Does the explosive after-damage get a head shot multiplier? If not, why make it explode at all? Just boost the base damage to compensate.

I don’t really enjoy the idea of hitting someone with an arrow, getting killed by them due to a lack of the total damage, then them dying a few seconds later.
