Merc Idea: Barb

Barb (Barbara/Wire)

Class: Recon
Hit points: 90
Speed: 430

Barb (or Wire) is specialized for making traps and obstacles. Her background is full of stories about hunting trips and other eventful journeys which are hard to tell are they truthful or products of wild imagination.

Semiauto shotgun or heavy hunting rifle.

Ability 1: Barb wire / Obstacle
Placed example into tight corridors and such Barb wire will stop any merc proceeding until the path is cleared. Placing obstacle requires few moments and clearing of it happens like defusing of c4. Other way is to blow the the obstacle into pieces. EV won’t be stopped because of it but will take small damage. Engineers clear obstacles more quicker. Ramming into it with speed will cause cuts and damage.

Ability 2: Tripwire
Barb is able to place small tripwires. It’s harder to notice than mine and when opponent goes over the area he/she will have chance to trip to the wire after which tripwire vanishes. When opponent trips, his movement stops and he is lowered to crouch position. Barb gets to know the place where the opponent has touched the wire. It takes a shot or melee attack to destroy the wire.

Ability 3: Net gun (optional)
Barb has gun that fires a net. Net will act almost like Nader’s grenade. It can be lobbed over obstacles and it opens up after a second or so. Net can catch one or two opponents which makes them stuck in it and unable to move. Those stuck must use melee attacks in order to destroy the net.

Appearance:
Dazzling beauty with Barbie like qualities (Lara Croft meets blondie like Pamela Anderson). Irritable with short temper and often power tripping who looks like she’s as wild as the wilderness itself and born to hunt.

EDIT: Ability 3 added.

I don’t care what she would look like. Get your head out of the gutter.

I meant that if you would like to play as your mother in Dirty Bomb, a character that places barb wires and tripwires, nothing to do with her looks.

@retired Hmmm nice idea. Remove the net gun and making the tripwire just so it only says it’s tripped which will let you know where the enemy is but it doesn’t stop the enemy or do anything else. This makes the merc balanced and viable.

I have to agree with Pingu for once, at least a little. Players dislike getting caught in nets. More to the point, making the barb wire be a severe slow and give small damage over time while moving through them may be more realistic than an outright invisible wall.

The trip wires, as advised above, should probably just give the team an exclamation mark type alert that someone on the enemy team has moved through one: requiring a new placement after being broken.

Having both of these abilities on a single character may be a bit much, but that would depend on how many charges you give to each side. If both were limited or shared the same pool, this could be one of the most versatile area-of-denial characters in the game.
