Merc idea - Ares

Name: Rion Jones
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Class: Engineer
Health: 100 HP
Speed: 410

Primary weapons: KEK-10, M4A1, BR-16
Secondary weapons: Empire, DE. 50, Tolen MP
Melee: Beckhill combat knife, Kukri, Cricket bat

Abilities:

Guardian turret - A deployable generator that grants a 30 HP shield to allies in it’s radius. Once the shield depletes the turret will grant another one after a five second delay. (KEEP IN MIND THE SHIELDS DO NOT STACK, For example if an ally has a full HP shield the turret WILL NOT grant another shield on top of that) The turret has a lifetime of 1 and a half minutes until its cooldown. (cooldown: 1 minute) The turret can be destroyed by enemy projectiles. The turret has HP 90.

Gonna need more stats to see how balanced this thing is. Effect radius? Shielding affected by headshots? Explosives? CD starts when placed or destroyed?

I don’t think that adding maximum HP to mercs, even if it’s temporary, is a good idea. It messes with TTK, swings gunfights in the boosted player’s favor, and generally makes strong mercs stronger than they really ought to be (read: shielded Rhino/Thunder on a Health Station.)

So my current opinion is “ehh… maybe.”

The ability, due to it granting extra survivability to friendlies, seems more like a medic ability than an engineer ability.

The KEK-10 is also nowhere near the M4’s capabilities let alone the BR-16. It doesn’t fit on this character.

I do however like the idea of a Medic that uses their healing in what is essentially an OW ultimate ability. Maybe this could be a cool addition to the game, who knows.

This would basically be Aura’s healing station right? Just with a more offensive merc, or have I read that wrong? Still it’s a cool idea as a defender as to emphasize positioning and choke controls. However, I would personally like the codename “Ares” be given to a more attack-oriented mercenary. Seems odd to have the God of War be sitting at the back, giving shields to teammates.

I’m confused. Is this supposed to be an armor-type shield, bubble shield, or a turret? Why is a turret making shields? ‘-’;

Granting additional HP to mercs, even for a short time, is generally OP. A Rhino with Tryhard can hit suicide 3 times and suddenly have 230 max HP. If he sits next to a guardian turret, 260 Max Hp. Stack that on an Aura Station, that guy is never going down.

What I would do is give the Guardian turret 150 Hp (It’s really easy to destroy things that don’t shoot back.) and EMP deployables within a large radius (Bigger than Phantom’s cloak), as well as deal gradual damage to them (6/sec), including Proximity mines and Fletcher’s stickies. This could easily be a very useful mechanic, and bring the cheeky turret placements and Aura camps down a notch.

Interesting. Stationary DoT to enemy deployables through walls? That’s clever. Seems a bit like a one-trick pony though, seeing as it only affects deployables.
