[Merc] Grapple (Rebooted!)

(Mr-Penguin) #1

“The half paralyzed climber against actual soldiers? Seems fair enough.”

Class- Engineer
HP- 100
Speed- 430

Profile- Before the Dirty Bomb attacks, Grapple was one of the world’s best female rock climbers and a self-taught engineer. She had thousands of supporters and fans, and they all came to cheer her on when she attempted a world record climbing marathon. Alas…mistakes happen. Live on the internet. And she didn’t get that world record either.

When she woke up in the hospital the next day, the doctor told her some terrifying news. Her spinal cord had taken a massive blow when she had fallen and thus left her left arm and leg almost completely paralyzed. Sure, the full body cast sucked, but when the doctor said that she would probably never walk again and would definitely never rock climb again, she immediately began to think of ways to get her limbs back.

As soon as she finished her rehabilitation, Grapple returned to her workshop and began to think. She wasn’t into cutting off her limbs and and getting into the robot arm craze, and she didn’t have enough money to get the highly expensive and experimental stem cell therapy that would be needed to restore complete function of her limbs. She did have a bunch of assorted scrap parts and whatnot, so she went the middle road- an exoskeleton encasing her arm and leg that would move it for her. While she was at at, she also built a powerful grappling hook gun onto the exoskeleton to enhance her rock climbing experience. But she had borrowed a lot of money to build the suit, so she went to the only place offering 6 figure salaries- the streets of London.

Appearance- Tall with an athletic build and short cut red hair. Wears an unbuttoned jacket with a tank top visible underneath. The right sleeve is rolled up to just below the elbow, revealing gauze tape loosely wrapped all the way up to the middle of the forearm. Her left arm and leg are encased by a bulky exoskeleton that appears to be made of spare parts and has scrap metal welded on for makeshift armor. On the left forearm is her signature grappling hook gun attached directly to the exoskeleton. A small backpack of sorts contains a spool of wire/rope that runs right through the exoskeleton, as well as a small power source for the exoskeleton itself. She also wears a belt with three small bags hanging from the right side, as well as a climbing pick…

Primary Ability- Grappling Hook
CD- 5 sec (miss), 10 sec (enemy hit), 20 sec (grappling)
Duration- N/A
Grapple raises her left arm and shoots a grappling hook where she is aiming. The hook travels slightly faster than Nader’s grenades and travels in an shallower arc than said grenades. After latching onto any vertical surface, clicking again will reel Grapple towards the hook and onto whatever surface she happens to have attached to. This results in a longer 20 second CD. Hitting a non-vertical surface will cause the hook to be reeled in and produce a 5 second CD.

Impacting an enemy will cause the hook to stick to them and deal an initial 30 damage. Clicking will then reel the enemy in, dealing 10 damage a second and pulling them towards Grapple at speeds dependent on the enemy’s maximum health. Stuck enemies can free themselves by attacking the line with a melee weapon or killing the Grapple the launched it. All of this will create a 10 second CD.

Secondary Ability- Lash Hook
CD- 15 seconds
Duration- N/A
Grapple loads a slightly bulkier grappling hook into the launcher and fires it where she is aiming. While incapable of attaching to a surface, the hook deploys a small device on impact and the line is then cut. When an enemy passes by one of these devices, a hook is launched from it and attaches to them, restricting movement and dealing 5 damage per second. They can be destroyed by shooting the device or meleeing the line. These lash hooks can stick to just about anything asides from players. Grapple carries two of them maximum.

Tertiary Ability- Objective Specialist
As an engineer, Grapple completes Plant, Disarm, and Repair objectives much faster than non-engineers.

Weapons- Anhuld-12, Blishlok, Crotzini

Quotes-
“Up up and away!”- Using Grappling Hook
“Lashing: tying poor sods to a wall to shoot them more easily. Hooray!”- Enemy lashed by Lash Hook
“Me, the half paralyzed rock climber took out all three of you? You guys suck!”- Triple Kill

Notes-
Grapple is back! But this time she has a new trick up her sleeve exoskeleton: the Lash Hook, which is intended as a mobility hindering sticky mine of sorts that allows Grapple to shoot enemies ensnared in its grasp, as well as preventing long ranged movement. The idea came from comments on the previous Grapple thread, and the quote about it is courtesy of @Samniss_Arandeen. The CD for the mobility aspsect of the Grappling Hook was increased greatly to balance to insane mobility that they give. But the problem now is this: does the Lash Hook make the offensive capability of the Grappling Hook redundant?

Tell me what you think about this new and improved Grapple concept, and thanks for reading!

primary ability is the grapple from tf2, secondary is the grapple thing from evolve?

Aw yiss! A reboot!

(Mr-Penguin) #4

Pretty much. The first is more of a mobility thing and the Lash Hook locks an enemy in place.
