Since this latest patch the smoke seems 10x thicker and covers a much larger area + its as bad when your own teammates do it as the enemy - I thought ‘friendly smoke’ was supposed to be easier to see through? Its like a regular Victorian pea-soupah!

My post from another thread…
It is, on paper… at least it’s harder to counter. But consider this:
- In many situations where you can see and spot the enemies, your teammates can see them too. This is especially the case with more bottlenecky maps like first stages of Chapel. In contrast, HB sensor works through walls, encouraging throwing it near cover and hideouts.
- in areas with few entrances, it gives the enemy early warning even if you’re not going to shoot them for some reason. For example you spot an enemy in a tunnel, from behind. He has the entire other side in his view, and now he knows exactly where you are.
- if you can spot an enemy, you can shoot him too, always. ALL of Red Eye weapons have long range, so what are the cases where you can see the enemy but not shoot him ? Reloading ? Out of ammo ?
- But if there are multiple enemies in view, you probably won’t live very long. Again, spotting them makes it harder for you to pick them one by one.
- Often when there are many enemies in view, turning on IR fails to spot some of them. It’s unreliable.
Spotting an entire team leaving spawn is next to useless unless you’re after xp. It doesn’t give your team any useful information. All level 5+ players know where players spawn, and WHEN they spawn isn’t that hard to work out either.
Yes, it’s easy to use, but line of sight is a strong limitation. To make things worse, a while ago they reduced the time enemies are spotted by Red Eye.
One way Red Eye could be improved is making the “Detected” warning delayed, or outright removed. I don’t think it would cause any harm. Players with some experience know smoke cloud means Red Eye around, and they can be shot from the other side of the cloud. In any case I don’t think enemies deserve to know if there’s a Red Eye on the other side of the cloud or not! It reduces the confusion, distraction potential of the cloud. In some cases I can see myself NOT using the IR vision to remain more stealthy. And if there are no smoke clouds involved, spotting enemies for long periods of time will require being within line of sight but NOT shooting enemies. It’s a tradeoff on an already limited ability.
“Detected” warning for HB Sensor is pretty much required because it’s a literal wallhack and the user benefits from it too. The user of IR vision doesn’t benefit from it if there’s no cloud.
All I can really say about Red Eye has everything to do with the Grandeur, give us a dot sight for it, and tweak the intitial starting accuracy for hipfire to be better, in exchange for maybe more bloom per shot.
Compared to the Dreiss, I think it should be a heavier hitting, longer ranged weapon, whether it’s fired from the hip or not, but require a lot more time and patience between shots than the Dreiss. I feel like the Dreiss should be a little more spammy and better for close range…which it does fine right now actually.

Dreiss used to be around 350rpm compared to the 300 currently…? I’m off a bit on the numbers but it used to be 20% higher RoF. It felt a bit goofy (lottery if you spammed too much) then but if you got used to the spread of the older one, it was ridiculously strong. Now it feels like it purposely holds your hand when you shoot it, since the RoF follows the spread reduction pretty spot on.
