Merc Ethnicities

I think most of the mercs should be from UK. Isn’t it little bit weird that you see these Chinese, Nigerian and Turkish people in British all-volunteer army. Protecting streets of London and just for money. Whats even worse, everyone is fighting for both sides maintaining status quo. There should be reason to fight for britain and not do what ever they do in spare time, or previous life. Reason to die, reason to live. It might be possible to have situations that there are no british mercs on field. Which leaves uncertain questions about labour code and racial opportunism in command chain. Of course I dont mind new mercs, especially if you accidentally drop one Finnish merc. I just think they should be more homogeneous. Slight step to more gritty, regular and individual world. Unless battleground extend to other countries. Dirty Bomb shows too much extravagant attention to cultural differencies. I dont want to be a stereotype, do you?

I can only imagine that Finnish guy will be silent, booze drinking perkele guy with sniper and skis.

Mercenary
A mercenary[1] is a person who takes part in an armed conflict who is not a national or party to the conflict and is "motivated to take part in the hostilities by desire for private gain

Turtle? Turkey is close enough.

Funny, I never thought of Turkey to be “middle east” but after a quick search it apparently is, I guess that ticks that box.

Yeah, it’s weird. The most obvious thing to me was Turtle saying “Salam” in game.

i thought he said Shalom

is this salam and shalom interchangeable in meaning?

The word “Salam” is used as a greeting in Arabic languages, and as an absorbent word in Melayu. Shalom is a Hebrew phrase used as a greeting as well, and it means something along the lines of “Peace be!”. You’d often hear Jews and Christians use this, and from what I know from some Muslim acquaintance, Salam has a similar meaning.

Yeah, their interchangeable, just like saying “John”, “Jean” and “Juan” is sorta interchangeable.

@emjot

“Protocol Additional GC 1977 (APGC77) is a 1977 amendment protocol to the Geneva Conventions. Article 47 of the protocol provides the most widely accepted international definition of a mercenary, though not endorsed by some countries, including the United States.”

Moar slavs please ^^ and no sparks is not russian dammit she is Bulgarian

(emjot) #26

@henki000 I did read it, even gave same link just without point to specific paragraph :slight_smile:
Just one note, this specific protocol you are referring to is about GC"s international conflicts.

So my quote was more related to the “hired gun” term than military mercenary who takes part in a international conflict (war) which fits Dirty Bomb since they are not soldiers per se, they are actually guns to hire.

(GatoCommodore) #27

actually govt hire mercenaries because they are cheaper in the long run.
its like pay to win in real life because you dont need to train them and pay pension for them

Sparks looks like an eastern European, but I always thought her voice actress was a bit off if that’s what they were going for. Most of the time her accent sounds more Germanic to me so an area like Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, or Austria is what I always assumed. Sparks is Sparks.

@emjot

Conflict in britain with international people and equipment is international conflict. Why are CDA and Jackal fighting?

“© is motivated to take part in the hostilities essentially by the desire for private gain and, in fact, is promised, by or on behalf of a Party to the conflict, material compensation substantially in excess of that promised or paid to combatants of similar ranks and functions in the armed forces of that Party;”

In Dirty Bomb you can hire a mercenary for 150 pounds (credits) for stealing power cores in national vault. At the same time hes killing bunch of migrant workers and destroying expensive AA warfare systems. Dont you think that 150 pounds is maybe too little compensation and personal political needs are the real reason for intervention?

They mostly do it for fun, or as Nader puts it in one of her voice lines: “I can not believe I get paid for this!”

Also, what kind of merc needs money if they get great outfits from RNG cases? :trollface:

I want to see an islamic kamezake(in game ),well we have already nader/proxy but something like Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Guy from Serious Sam would be fun

A thread about ethnicities soon derailed into a discussion on political conflicts and a debate on thw nationality of a praused woman. Just your average day on the internet.

I think a South American would be cool, since that’s the only continent that we haven’t seen represented so far. Also I want a Mongolian (named Khan, of course.)

They’re not lol. But I’m saying her voice actress confuses me at times so I just assumed she tried to pull off some accent from western Slavic and eastern Germanic regions. So many people in the game say she’s a German and so many say she’s Russian… Could just be my untrained American ear, but I swear by her sounding more German in a lot of her phrases. But who cares. 'Tis but a game. Sparkity Sparks is still Sparks.

@Wintergreen

Sorry didnt know that you are American. Didnt want to be mean. I know nothing about American geography.
