[Merc] - Blackjack

(Xenithos) #1

Backstory:
"An American that went on a wild tour of the world’s many casinos after winning the New World lottery, completely forgot about most of his family, and didn’t seem to care too much either. He ended up in London after the bombs dropped while on a challenge tour, it was said that his skill at cards was unbeatable. However, in his defense, he killed anyone that got close to beating him, since his cards were specially made, and he had a knack for sidearms.

After defending the casino for two weeks due to terrorist concentrations in the area, he was “rescued” by the CDA when they finally got on the scene. However, since his habits had run out of fuel due to the terrorists taking down the place, he needed a new line of lottery, one that would make cash fast, and where he could still bet his life on his risks."

Blackjack is an interesting merc, with two abilities, but one more in the manifest of a trait. He gets to use two sidearms at the same time, at all times, and both his primary, and secondary, are sidearms. These two weapons are actually the weapons that he wields for that loadout. We’re talking Dual revolvers, an empire 9 and a mp400, etc. He can dish out double the damage that one might expect, but lacks the hp to stay in a fight for too long.

Overall, I’m thinking Blackjack is a different type of recon merc, though maybe he’s a slayer, and his card ability should be changed.

HP: 100 - 110
SPEED: 420-430 - possibly even 410… but he shouldn’t be insanely fast.

Primaries:
MP400, M9, Simeon

Secondaries:
Empire9 or tolen, DE or Selbadst, S & W

Melee:
Staff, Stillnotto, cricket bat.

Ability 1: (TRAIT) Uses both weapons at the same time, and has the sleight of hand to reload one while firing the other, don’t ask where he learned this skill, it’s said he threw a card at the last person that asked.

Ability 2: Blackjack (maybe Ace, or Deuce) - Blackjack plays 52 card pickup, or however many cards are up his sleeves. Blackjack packs specialty cards up his sleeves, one every 3 seconds, and can have a total of 6-8 cards in his sleeves at one time, this ability allows him to shoot his cards instantly out from under his sleeves jango-fett-style. I’m thinking they do about 15-25 damage a card, or that they have slight explosion or something. Still trying to figure out how to balance him without making him a new kind of phantom or nader. I was also thinking mabe the cards “spot” targets they hit, and he flings them out like a wide range shotgun, doing no damage. (why i say recon above)

Ability 2 possible replacement: (Trait), every 30 seconds Blackjack checks his luck, if you let him. Depending on the rarity of the suit randomly rolled, he gets certain beneficial effects. 5 cards poker style. However, if the first two cards he draws is a black jack and any ace, he immediately gets one of the best possible effects randomly rolled as well. This was what i was thinking slayer style.

(High card) - Blackjack gets nothing, loser. OR blackjack gets immediate drunk effect, has 8 seconds of dizzying effect similar to the end of thunder’s concussion grenade.
(1 pair) - Blackjack randomly recovers 25hp, or gains one clip of ammo for each gun.
(2 pair or 3 of a kind) - Blackjack gains a speed boost for the next 20 seconds, equivalent of a 20 speed boost.
(4 of a kind or full house) - Blackjack gains 50 hp, and a temporary 25 second long extra 25 hp.
(Straight) - Blackjack gains double the 1 pair rewards.
Royal Straight - Blackjack gains straight and the speed boost or the full house reward.
Royal flush - Black jack’s weapons instantly fully reload, his hp fully recovers, and he gains invulnerability for 3 seconds.

BlackJack = (the first two cards are a black jack, and an ace) Blackjacks damage doubles, or he gains the effect of royal flush.

Tell me what you think, Also, i’m thinking for looks, he’s got to have a trenchcoat/duster, possibly has an eyepatch. And a suave hat to go with his suit. I’m thinking a cross between Star Wars The Old Republics Smuggler in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyYbvVAtlWk, and John Marston from Red Dead Redemption. Come to think of it, Gambit’s looks would work pretty well too (Marvel universe) http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/f/f8/Remy_LeBeau_(Earth-TRN177)_0001.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20101226021727

DO IT, give him purple inner clothes also. cuz he’s a playa. :hushed:

I’ve also got a lot of quotes for him if people are actually interested.

guy with akimbo guns(okay) and card-throwing(mythbusted, it doesnt work) and an RTD ability?
i…actually have no idea. a way to balance that RTD is to make it have negative effects as well, but we dont really want another RNG in the game, do we?

(Sergeant_Falcon) #3

I like this idea.

(Sergeant_Falcon) #4

However idk if the card idea suits dirty bomb.

(HunterAssassin5) #5

i know it doesnt. cards cant inflict any meaningful injury, and if you want to make playing cards out a tougher material and sharpen the edges, you might as well go for throwing knives, which can’t kill, either.
in my opinion, the RTD effect on the cards is enough for one merc.

(Xenithos) #6

Okay, just a heads up, i thought it was clear, but the rng effects on the cards, was a POSSIBLE ability, the card throwing was what i suggested as the main, and if it didn’t do any damage, it was supposed to be a longer lasting tracking beacon cards.

(Xenithos) #7

The other thing with cards not being effective/deadly, i completely understand it’s not realistic, however, this is fudging dirty bomb universe, which means he could’ve applied chemicals to them taht are harmful, and considering the technology, he could likely easily have cards specially made to go boom or something.

(HunterAssassin5) #8

might as well use posion darts or grenades then. there is literally no reason for a guy to use souped-up playing card-like things as weapons when he can just as well use normal grenades and poison darts or something, which has more advantages and less disadvantages over the cards.

yes, this IS fudging dirty bomb universe, where we have a woman whos’ probably japanese i didnt check who has a taunt that goes “kawaii~!” that carries around a laser orbital weapons platform thats probably illegal under international law i think(The Game Theorists, teaching you stuff you didnt think you’ll ever need XD), but we dont have a merc with an ability that’s a unicorn that farts rainbow lazors yet.

the game is still very much grounded in reality, slacking somewhat because its still a game, but until my suggestion for an alternate-universe person goes through, its unlikely this merc suggestion will get any sort of positive replies.

oh, a flowing trenchcoat is also not the best idea either since on the game side, the cloth effects will eat up processing power, whether as a physics object or pre-animated, and on the realistic side it could get caught on something, even when not doing hardcore parkoour stuph. didnt you watch the incredibles?

in my opinion, this single merc should be split up into 3 different merc, like dazzler was split into fragger and thunder.
one merc has a dual-wield ability, probably with low health and high movement speed,
one merc uses an explosive frisbee if you really want to keep that. cards are too light, and get tossed around in the wind, a frisbee’s more practical imo,
and one merc has that RTD effect.

(PoisonBoost) #9

Great idea but the health boost should be thought out a little more in depth. Overall interesting and I like it.

RNG is a hated part of dirty bomb’s loadout card system. Imagine transitioning that frustration to in-game firefights. - I’d look forward to the salt mines. (Also, frisbee’s sound like a proxy upgrade, to that person who recommended it.)

the other problem here is that a recon merc would have higher burst damage than a shotgun-wielding proxy at close range. - The merc’s dual weapon selection means that at mid-range it would out damage a light merc with a fast hochfir; regardless of health, the head shot multiplier with that level of rate-of-fire(s) would be astounding.

Ryder I just wanna say, having a giant lazer space station in the sky “DOES NOT” break the Geneva codes. You can’t have nukes, chemical weapons, or bombs (that general list) in a space station, but if you built the station with a laser then your fine since that’s a loophole in the codes. starts building the Deathstar

Yeah, I rewatched the video and then forgot to edit it out XD
