Merc Best Friends - Fan Art Contest - Winners Edition!

In case you’ve been living under a rock, we have been running a fan art contest over the last couple of weeks with the theme of “merc best friends”! We got over 20 awesome submissions, and we have finally stopped yelling at each other over the winners.

Just as a reminder, the prizes are:

[list][] Grand Prize Winner –100,000 credits and 2x Elite Cases
[] Second Prize Winner –65,000 credits and 2x Elite Cases
[*] Third Prize Winner –35,000 credits and 2x Elite Cases[/list]

And the winners were selected based on:

[list][]Originality and creativity – 50%
[]Artistic skill and merit – 50%[/list]

Without further to do, here they are!

#1 - @knightenchanter’s Nader, Aura, and Proxy after a long battle - Super cool graphic novel style, lots of story packed into one image which also leaves a fair bit open to interpretation. We loved that these are three mains of the player post-match, the role reversal of Aura, and Proxy’s job of carrying the weapons of the other two as they help each other after a battle.

#2 - @Shinywindow’s Arty and Sawbonez throwback - The presentation on the Polaroids goes a long way towards creating a believable image, and the idea of Arty partying with Sawbonez “back in the day” is what really sold us on this piece (Shiny even made an animated version!).

#3 - @BlackboltLW’s Redeye giving Vassili a beer - The expression on their faces really tells a story. To us, it looks like the war hardened Redeye is appreciating Vassili’s aim with a sniper rifle by giving him a beer, and the praise catches Vassili off guard.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:
@ThaiSan’s glorious battle mount - This piece really speaks for itself. Kira is riding Rhino into battle. That’s just glorious.

BirdSim’s Russian gals - We really like the tactile styling of this hand-painted piece. What we really love though, is the scenario - it seems very genuine to have two of the most hard-assed female Mercs trying to drink each other under the table. Nader’s underhanded accusation of Spark’s shady background is a nice touch.

@RyePanda’s Lego Bushwhacker / Fragger - Adorable little Lego guys helping each other out. We were most impressed by that rad E.V.!

@yellowFan’s Kira and Arty at the arcade - Two characters that deal with explosives that mysteriously appear from the sky? We could see why they get along. The idea of them hanging out at an arcade is something the mercs seem like they would do as well!

@Gintoki23’s Merc Purikura machine booth - Too cute. Really, it is - and it has us wondering what could be behind the cluster of butterflies near Nader’s hand…

@ultraDoctor’s Anthropomorphized Kira and Phantom - In an alternative universe where the Dirty Bomb happens in Zootopia, Kira is an all too “kawaii” bunny, and Phantom is a cunning cat. Personally, I just love the idea of battle ready animals going off to complete these missions for cold hard cash.

You forgot the part where you mention this piece’s so damn adorable yo.

And also congratulations for all the winrars and mentions all alike! Hard to imagine what DB would be without the talented artists around interpreting their visions and creating community content of the game in this form.
