Profile- A mechanical engineering prodigy, Automaton was in studying abroad in England when the Dirty Bomb attacks occurred. The university she was studying at became a temporary shelter for those in the immediate area, where she developed several prototype decontamination machines for the CDA. Once the initial crisis had been resolved, everybody at the university were moved to more permanent shelters and evac stations.

Everybody except for Automaton. She was left behind, and all that was left was the entire university campus and the CDA decontamination structures that were left. Alone, depressed, and with no way out, she stayed, building robots to pass the time. After a while though, she slowly began to fall into depravity, treating her robots like real people. When the Jackals arrived at the scene a few months later, they found Automaton babbling to one of her robots she was wearing on her back. Recognizing her obvious engineering skills, they took her with them as a mercenary, but her fractured mind has only partially recovered since then.

Appearance- Has dark hair with purple streaks. Her eyes look somewhat sunken, and she looks tired overall. Wears an unbuttoned jacket with a stained t-shirt underneath, as well as jeans. A belt of assorted tools is strapped around her waist. ARES, her robot, is attached to her back by its arms, while its legs are attached directly to the backs of Automaton’s legs.

CD- Deploy (15 sec), Recall (5 seconds)

ARES Stats and Info

Speed- 405
ARES will take the fastest route to do whatever it has to do. If injured, it will automatically return to Automaton’s side. If shooting at an enemy, ARES will make feeble attempts to strafe and will aim for center mass. In other words, it’s basically a walking turret with spread and magazines to reload. It can be disabled temporarily via REVIVR shot or leg shots for 5 seconds. Explosives will also deal additional minimum damage to ARES (max damage is unchanged).

Automaton deploys ARES to do whatever task she happens to need to do. This is dependent on the Director’s (secondary ability). After deploying ARES, Automaton can use Recall to make it come back to her, but only after ARES has been deployed for 5 seconds. The deploy process takes 1 second to complete, while the recall process requires 2 seconds for ARES to reattach to Automaton’s back. In the event ARES’s health reaches zero, it will drop to the ground and can be repaired by Automaton or other engineers to bring it back online. It will also respawn with Automaton.

Automaton takes out a very fancy laser pointer called the Director and uses it to direct ARES once it has been deployed. What ARES does is dependent on where and what the Director is pointed at. After completing any task, ARES will then escort the nearest teammate or retreat if injured. The list of possible actions (more will be added!) is below:
[spoiler]- Escort Self: Used by default when deployed.

  • Escort Teammate: Hold Director on teammate for 2 seconds
  • Attack/Gib Enemy: Hold Director on enemy for .5 second.
  • Plant/Disarm/Return Obj.: Flash Director on obj., will plant in 4 sec. and disarm in 6 sec.
  • Grab Carryable: Flash Director on carryable. ARES will then take the shortest route to the delivery site .
  • Repair/Escort EV: Flash Director on EV. Repairs 50% faster than non-engineers.
  • Jump Boost: Hold Director on a higher surface for 1 sec. ARES will then throw Automaton up to the surface.
  • Guard Area: Hold Director on location for 1.5 seconds for ARES to guard the surrounding area.

    Automaton completes Plant, Disarm, and Repair objectives faster.

Built onto ARES itself. There are two of them: one for personal use and one for ARES.

Notes-
Automaton is clearly one of my more complicated and innovative ideas, stemming from the common idea of an automated device that can plant and defuse. But then I thought, but what if it could do even more than that? And then it came to me. I know that ARES is going to be a bit hard to balance, but feedback will help! I also know that the list of things ARES can preform is not an exhaustive list, but if you have other ideas, then feel free to comment below!

stockholm syndrome much, gg?

well, like the drone ideas i put in my list(well, i havent yet, just dumped it in the comments), there is kinda a lack of vulnerabilities. i know, 100 hp isnt a lot, but ive won 1v1s with rhinos as proxy and aura(not to mention melee 1v1s with phantys. feels good.), so speed is more than enough to avoid death if used effectively, not that i think it could/should be able to do evasive maneuvers but i digress.
i suggested that the defibs and the REVIVR, should they manage to land a hit on the drone, should be able to short-circuit it. add that maybe?

other than that, how large is it going to be in-game, will it be slowed down by the carryable, and maybe escorting the EV, too, is a bit much?

(i find i usually just focus on the abilities when i ask my questions and dont look at the stats for the character itself. you could slip a functional ability alongside a straight up OP character and i wouldnt notice because im really not a stats person)

the drone’s a humanoid robot? shit, i think i messed up big time on that front. i typed my reply with a quadcopter in my head. well, take my reply however way you like, but remember i typed that thinking “quadcopter” over “humanoid robot”

Yep, it’s humanoid.
