Melee turn speed slow, please get rid of it...

I used to be able to play this game 12 hours straight (sue me), and I was having a lot of fun with a Kira running the Chopper/Stilleto/BR loadout. I’m also gonna be frank and admit that I’m awful at aiming with burst fire weapons thus the only way I could literally play Kira is melee and orbital strike.

I’ve also been an avid lover of melee on other mercs, but this patch, this goddamn patch. I’m level 30. I can’t stand playing this game any more than 45 minutes.

This patch literally killed my desire to play.

How many hits if on the side of the character or in the front? I am guessing very short means stiletto range and does he move faster than other characters? I know he can look like opponents and get by that way, but how does invisibility work, when he moves?

I cant remember how many attacks from the front , 3+ atleast. Also not sure TF2 counts sides. He’s above average speed, I think only scout and medic are faster.
When invisible he’s completely invisible and makes no sound but it offers him nothing more. He can not attack while cloaked, if he bumps into an enemy he will become slightly visible (much like phantom is now I guess)
His cloak lasts for 9seconds by default other equipment can change that slightly.
If shot at while cloaked he becomes slightly visible and his cloak does not offer him additional health.
Health wise is the lowest in the game matching only the scout (proxy equivalent pretty much.)
Decloaking has a specific sound that’s extremely noticeable if within range.

Sad thing is that I feel the same. The game isn’t just the same anymore.

This was to stop the whiners about how op phantom is with his Katana . So they made it impossible to a swiping motion with the lunge attack blah blah. What they should’ve done was make him able to sweep in a cone infront of him because right now its almost impossible to stab anyone (unless they’re holding still) and this game emphasis movement. So just by being able to track an moving opponent that can jump off walls, sprint for days and bunny hop. Takes already a high enough skill to just stab them; all the while being shot at. TL:DR devs screwed up on melee, The following nerfs on phantom are alright.

No one was knowing about the spin exploit before, since no one was questioning melee effectiveness before a melee focused Merc entered the scene (tho girefing targeted at melee focused Aura/Proxy did happen in the past).

With Phantom and getting stabed left and right people specifically started to looked into why it was so easy and found an exploit that way.
That exploit could technically be employed by all melee weapons, sure it makes less sense doing so on a knife, compared to a weapon with a long reach. But it would still give you an advantage over someone not using that exploit.
Considering that there might be more melee weapons along the path and the katana might getting expanded to other classes it makes sense to prevent the spread of that exploit at the root.

All they gotta do now is calibrate it so it strikes a good balance.

Getting the sens changed while playing is simply b u l l s h i t. So plx, someone give them the documentation for the code so they can insert some real anti-abuse, and take this shit out.
Bad enough we still have to edit the ini to get most of the mouseacceleration out, now they presented us with another unwanted fiddling around with our mousemovement.

I just played 2 matches yesterday and only used my melee to gib people. It didn’t feel half as bad as some people here argue it is. Btw I’m on very low sens and don’t quick knife but change to the actual melee slot with ‘3’ to gib, using the fast melee.

Will see how it is in further games when I have the time.

Since the patch I’ve been able to kill enemies with the knife as easily as before. I actually feel it might be a bit less of a hassle, at least it’s easier for me to keep track what’s happening when I’m not frantically trying to hit the enemy. So yeah, I like it, I know I’m in the minority here but that’s mah two cents

I hope SD reverts this change for all melee weapons

The kantana seems fixed now, the heavy attack feels like a stab and does nothing while swiping

Why did you put it in the game regardlesss SD?

the phantom nerfs you employed would have been enough, you dindt have to make his melee + everyone else’s garbage too.

you mean to say that only people who played Phantom and understand how he works are upset at getting so many nerfs at once?

yeah… that is usually how it works. Those that understand a subject are often the ones with the most intelligent arguments.

I own Phantom and the only real game breaker is the melee turn speed nerf, but that also effects all my characters especially when I try and finish off a person as I run by.

But I do have to give you props about your observation that only people really complaining are the ones who are experienced with using Phantom.

I don’t play Phantom, I did in the first few days of release but he got boring and was to susceptible to dying. Probably never going to play him again. That said I think the nerfs were retarded, right now he’s less than useless.

they went way overboard with the melee change, i know this they didnt have this in mind when they made phantom but still:

this new melee system is straight up bs. there should be some kind of strafe with such speeds even if its limited. Phantom is made for its katana plays without it its pretty much a fragger that can stealth (oh wait thats gone to).
