Medpacks should have the ability to be picked up

(BreathOfBacon) #1

We have all been in this situation (If you have played Sawbonez or Sparks). You toss a medpack down to a injured teammate, but sadly you don’t get a direct hit on them and it lands behind or beside them. So now you just have to pray that they will walk over your medpack. But they don’t walk into it. They either walk straight into battle with low health and die, or they retreat even further back to self-regenerate without noticing the medpack that was laid on the ground for him. Great. Now you have a wasted medpack lying on the ground with nobody to pick up (presuming that you aren’t going to take damage while it is there). This is extremely frustrating and has sometimes put me off from playing medic.

The only solution to this is using voice chat or super fast typing, and you probably do not want to talk every few seconds just to tell someone that there is clearly a medpacks right in front of him and they should go walk on it.

This is why I propose that medpacks (and maybe ammo packs) should have the ability to be picked up like a deployable, so if you don’t get a direct hit or they don’t see the medpack on the ground, you can go pick it up and try again and hope that he will see it next time you throw it right in front of him or, try to land a direct hit. Picking up a medpack should work similarly to picking up a deployable (cool down reduction, etc) This would take the frustration of trying to help your teammates but nobody accepting your help.

(I am fairly new to the DB Forums and I did not know where to post this so I just posted it in the most popular section.)

you already have health station as deployable
why not try to throw them in front of your teammate? also you can always get better at direct hits too

if your sawbonze or sparks you have more than one medpack, if you miss the first time its not an issue you have more in the bank, personally i throw 2 if they dont pick them up i move on, if they die i’ll take the revive points instead xD

i thought the point of being a medic is liking being a maso-guy

Pretty sure that enemy you’ve just almost killed will be more than happy to pick it up.

I’ve wondered why you can’t pick back up med packs as well and have decided that:

A. If you can, respawn timer on medpacks has to be increased. It’s low so that you don’t get punished hard in this situation, but if you can just pick them back up when you miss, then they have to respawn slower.

B. Being unable to pick them up forces you to get better at throwing them, specifically so that you don’t leave health lying around for your enemies. It also prevents you from leaving a trail of health for yourself to back up onto, or just pick up, in case of a firefight… again, because if you die, the enemy can get them.

The deployable stations are supposed to be immobile. Unlike a pack that can be direct-hit on your team to avoid it falling into enemy hands, a station would always be there to assist the enemy if you couldn’t pick it back up.

It’s a duality choice; you either get the station you can freely pick up and place down at the cost of it being immobile, or you get the mobile solution that cannot be picked back up.

tl;dr, it forces you to be somewhat sparing with your health/ammo packs.

To be fair, you shouldn’t pick up syringes and alcohol you found laying on the floor.

The technology is not here yet :^)

I think every medpack should be picked up and used with certain key algorithms that take effect or revive teammates in few minutes. If you heal yourself, it should be near impossible and if medic heals you, it should be slow time recovery but possible occupational therapy after battle. It should require more skill to heal or healing yourself. Aura stations and Phoenix ability should be nerfed hard. Maybe a surgery simulator to remove bullets from entrails. It would overhaul whole nature of Dirty Bomb. Instead of fast paced medpack there, damage sponge here style. Objective and SW should be execution style, if you die, you die completely. Or if thats too much, you could use all your mercs once in a battle. That kind of mod would be awesome.

Syringes. Yes don’t take them from ground.

Alcohol. Depends on what it is if its rum I wouldn’t give a begotten fuck about if it was dropped or not I’m taking it. If its pure alcohol I would still take it. Use it to top off drinks or die. Win-win

I can see this hitting the game one day. It would be a cool feature to have and would make things a little more interesting for the Medics.

Bag or no, i don’t wanna risk getting HIV, unless it’s from Sparks, in which case, it won’t feel as awful.

@Lord_Coctus would probably try to jump in front of her next shot. I might too.

Totally worth it.

To be fair, brothels contributed a lot during the Black Plague. Yeah AIDS is in a different category, but the principles still apply:

Use infected host to further infect willing/irrationally behaving people. Perhaps those people engage other people, and further the spread even more.

Why did Jackal never think if this?
