Medic Parties

(Jess Alon) #1

Has anyone walked in on any of these? You’re getting your butt kicked and there’s like 2 bots fighting along side you. And you go back to the spawn and there’s 5 medics all standing around buffing and giving adrenaline and then throwing grenades to down their health and then buffing again. And transferring supplies back and forth.

It’s infuriating.

(darthmob) #2

My only hope is that those people will never reproduce.

(Ashog) #3

XP > money

in kids’ world  They (XP) are very important. So let them have it.

change server dude :stuck_out_tongue:

(RevLoki) #4

this is what happens when you only have one stat that is valued.

i dont know why they dont go into a private game and boost those show up on the stat site too

(SockDog) #5

But wait. I thought this would never EVER happen because people would do it offline and not f**K up online games with XP farming.

One stat or ten is doesn’t matter, people will chase whatever they feel they can attain. Look at everyone pining for K/D because that’s all they want to do in the game.

The point is not where they can gather XP it’s the fact that they believe that is the whole of the game and so will do it online with friends or like minded people.

XP, Public Stats, Unlocks and all that other crap is a total corrupting influence on the core game. End result is unfocused game. Either make WoW, Farmville or an FPS but don’t do all three.

I have not encountered this yet…but it is not surprising. Lame for sure.

(xBluntxForce) #8

This is funny actually, everyone’s like "“OH NO KD BECAUSE THE GAME WILL BECOME ALL ABOUT STATS” But what Is XP but another stat? Now look at whats happening.

(SockDog) #9

This is because gaming fun is being directed at these kind of numerical yardsticks rather than developers pushing other means to reward and incentivise play.

(DarkangelUK) #10

XP whoring at least results in the player somewhat performing tasks within the games intended scope, K/D stat whoring results in a lot less progress towards the games intended goal. Neither are desirable but XP is the lesser of 2 evils.

(sh4d3Z) #11

So… are you saying medic parties doing what Jess said they were doing are better than having K/D whores? I don’t think sitting in spawn, ignoring every objective in the game is playing the game the way it’s meant to be played. I’d much rather have 5 K/D stat-whores playing on my team than 5 medics sitting in spawn buffing each other constantly.

If you were speaking generally - not including XP farmers sitting in spawn - then I somewhat agree with you there.

(morguen87) #12

it will be exploited either way. at least xp farmers will hit a cap.

No, what I’m saying is I didn’t read it properly and thought he just meant 5 medics and no objective classes … whoops

The only way I can imagine actually providing a sufficiently strong counter-incentive is if you make Wins, Win:Loss Ratio, and/or # of Primary Objectives Completed more-explicitly obvious on the statistics page.

In other words, you EMPHASIZE what is important in the core gameplay so that generalizations about how good a player you are can’t be concealed by your inflated XP statistic.

Net XP and XP/min has become the new K/D farmed stat apparently.

Some people have been seen to farm Total Kills and Kills/h as well.

As I suggested, an emphasis needs to be placed on your proficiency at completing Primary Objectives and/or Winning the game, as far as the Stats Page is concerned.
it will be exploited either way. at least xp farmers will hit a cap.
They won’t hit a cap in terms of the Stat site. Match XP is still tracked on the stat site, I believe, even if it doesn’t translate to Character XP.

EDIT:

we’ve got several other objective tweaks coming, as well. For starters, we’re doubling the XP received for completing Primary Objectives in the game, so if you tackle one of them, your reward will be much greater from now on.
As Paul Wedgewood indicated, at least they are taking steps in the right direction with this one. Still, a Wins or # of Primary Objectives Completed statistic needs to be showcased to de-emphasize the significance of XP-farming.

However, I should also point out that if they provide a Wins stat, they will be giving us the only missing information that we need to compute a Win:Loss ratio.

I would like to better understand the Number of Primary Objectives that you were actually present for in game. This is probably more telling than the number of games you played, given that Game Totals tend to be exaggerated by the Drop-In/Drop-Out game mechanic. Your ability to accomplish (or deny) Primary Objectives is probably a better overall indicator of your personal ability than is your ability to Win or Lose games, because you are being assessed for the portion of the game that you were actually present for, not all the lead up to your arrival.

Well said, I couldn’t agree more.

(NotARelevantTarget) #16

If this was on the 360, I’d put money on it being achievement boosters. They should be finished soon though, and maybe some of them will try the game out before trading it in once ‘finished’.

SD’s response is ‘well if people like to ruin their own game, let them’ which is absolute bull****, it’s a perverse incentive that ruins the game for everyone.

(Coolaguy) #18

Another counter to this exploit would be to impose an XP-penalty for self-inflicted damage… I know it would suck a little, but it would prevent this specific XP-farming method.

Personally, I know I’d suffer if a Self-Inflicted Damage XP-penalty were imposed. This is because I’m a Nade-whore… and I often do collateral damage to myself if engaging in Close-Quarter-Battles.

tokamak, I agree with you in this case, but there is a genuine limit to the extent to which you can enforce, police, or punish players who deviate from your intended method of gameplay. Even without ‘perverse incentives’, there will still be people whose principal enjoyment is derived from pissing other people off (lol).

(tokamak) #19

Definitely. You can’t punish people for being ineffective players. But this is a clear case where people are being rewarded for things that have nothing to do with the goal of the game.

(Jess Alon) #20

Well it’s another good reason to have friendly fire. So I can mow people like that down and encourage them to do that in a private room because they are too busy being incapped to boost. And they lose too much XP fighting with me.
