Measuring tool?

(cicero) #1

Hello!

Is there some sort of measuring tool in GtkRadiant? Like, selecting to points and then the computer calcualtes the distance… or can you press a mouse buttom and hold it while the computer calculates the distance as you move the mouse…?

Thx!

select edit -> preferences -> 2d -> display size info

i personally just drag a quick brush from the one point to the other, read the size info and then delete it again…

hit q

This is imperative when making your map coordinents.

Size info won’t give the length of a diagonal.

i know - you got an idea how to show it then?

make brush
cut it so it matches you diagonal brush
free rotate until the cut edge is aligned with one axis
You can reverse this to make a diagonal brush of a specified length.

Except in a few special cases, this won’t be exact, but thats what we get for using integer coordinates.

a^2+b^2=c^2
bells ringing?
search for “pythagoras” on google or math for dummies

:bored: Yes, I know Pythagoras. I happen to be currently majoring in Physical Mathematics for my Bachelor of Science, so one whould hope I know Pythagoras.

As for the subject at hand, I would think it would be easier for all if there were some method similar to the clipper where you punch in two points, and it will show you the distance, and perhaps angles made by those points. Coders listening?

if they are there is another request: the rotation tool should have a possibility to rotate by angle, i guess it’s difficult because of the grid but would be really helpful

You know you can specify an angle of rotation in Selection->Rotate->Arbitrary Rotation…
