Maybe Splash Damage could ask another developer for help in fixing this bug.

(Anaconda) #1

I’ve mentioned this since the closed Alpha, and its still there.

The “Home” key is not bindable, and keeps bringing up some sort of prompt when you press it. In most FPS games, I use home to reload, but I’ve adjusted to using a new key in DB. However, the Home key is very close to the arrow keys, which I use for movement, and it keeps bringing up that weird prompt when in an intense firefight. EXTREMELY annoying and game breaking.

And no, “Use WASD” is not a fix. I cant use WASD because my hands are big. Never had this problem in any other game, and it seems that the team at Splash Damage simply don’t have a programmer who knows how to fix this bug, so I was wondering, if maybe you could ask around other developers/the modder community so that someone can fix it?

Thanks. Other then this bug, the game is great.

The arrows are pretty much as close together as wasd are…

And how is not being able to bind a key a bug?

Because all keys should be bindable, I’ve never had this issue in a game before.

And I use up and down to go forward backward and Delete/End for left and right, which gives me room to maneuver unlike cramped WASD.

(qjack) #4

home key is also bindable. if you get errors, then home key is already binded. check your config. ue3 engine didn´t allow double-binds in config.

Mappable keys in Unreal 3 Engine

It’s not bound, I go into control settings in the game, and it’s not bound to anything. I can screenshot for proof if you don’t believe me…

(qjack) #6

check your config (ShooterInput.ini). there could be more binds in it then you can see in the menu.
i didn´t try it out but i will do when i get some time.

(qjack) #7
Bindings=(Name="Home",Command="Camera FixedTracking",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)

this is the Home-bind by default. just change for your needs

I’m sorry but I’m not a programmer, I have no idea how to “recode” that. There is NO EXCUSE for a key to not be bindable and for a developer requiring you to be a PROGRAMMER in order to set up the controls how you want them to be.

(Ardez1) #9

Well if you want to bind your Home key, this is the way to do it. And this isn’t anywhere close to becoming a programmer. It is much closer to becoming an informed gamer.

@qjack didn’t need to research that for you, but he(I assume) went out of his way to help you with this. Thanks for that information! Hopefully somebody will get some use from the thread.

@Anaconda Either way, if this is something you would like to see changed within the game I would suggest either opening a ticket to request the change through Nexon or posting on the Splash Damage forums so a developer can see your post.

Don’t get me wrong, I am thankful for the info, I just do not have the technical knowledge on how to program the key to do something else. That’s just a block of programming code, I don’t know how to work with that. Professionally designed games allow you to change controls in a “Control settings” menu in game, but apparently Splash Damage don’t know how to do that, hency why I suggested they ask for help from a professional developer.

I think its a little rude to say that Im not an “informed” gamer because I don’t know how to program something in the game. That’s not being informed, that’s having technical knowledge that not everyone has time to learn. That’s like telling someone that they are not an informed Driver because they don’t know how to repair their car’s engine.

I understand that and it is helpful information, but I do not understand how to “rebind” it, all I see is programmer code.
I didn’t know being an informed gamer means being a part time programmer.

My mistake, I thought this was an official Dirty Bomb forum used by Splash Damage…

(Ardez1) #11

@Anaconda Hate to be like this, but back when I started gaming(only 2004-2005) modifying what you see above was a very basic part of creating custom binds and it did take research to learn how to do. But in no way would I say I am anywhere close to a programmer, part time or otherwise. It would be much closer to changing a tire then rebuilding an engine. Everybody should know how to change a tire if you plan to be driving(never know what might happen), but at the same time many people do not know.

You are, I believe, literally the only person who has run into this particular issue with the home key. It is currently bound to another use(albeit a hidden bind) and that has to be undone if you want to rebind the home key.

This is the official publisher forum, not the developer forum. And while the devs rarely seem to be here, it looks like they are starting to(finally).

i must agree with Ardez. for me all is said and explained.
@Anaconda: i give you this Mappable keys in Unreal 3 Engine. Nothing more can be said about UE3 Engine and keybinds.
… and it keeps bringing up that weird prompt when in an intense firefight. EXTREMELY annoying and game breaking.
you said “…it keeps bringing up…” So, IT IS BIND with something.
You just have to remove / replace that bind and your bind will work.
Professionally designed games allow you to change controls in a “Control settings” menu in game,
Lol, so you didn´t play much, eh?

Just ask google, search this forum, the splashdamage forum, steam. There are hundreds of good config guides. Search for “dirty bomb binds”, “dirty bomb config guide”.
This has nothing to do with being a programmer, professional, developer, supergeek or something else. just a normal gaming thing.

OT: This is for the ultra-hardcore-psycho-supergeeks out there!

In that case, why is there a control settings menu? If this is a normal “gamer” thing, why is there a menu in the game to set your keys? Shouldn’t everyone then have to set their keys through “binds”?
No, because it’s NOT a normal “gaming” thing, its something you are doing outside the interface and normal use of the game. You are modifying the game files by changing code, so it IS programming, and I know you all are proud of being tech smart, but not everybody has the time to learn these complicated things JUST TO SET UP YOUR CONTROLS.

That is completely unacceptable.

Maybe next they will remove the ability to launch the game through a desktop icon and you will have to do it through a DOS prompt?

(Maggot) #14

It’s a very simple process, really. If you’d spent half the time…

 1. Open \Documents\My Games\UnrealEngine3\ShooterGame\Config\ShooterInput.ini in notepad
 2. Search (CTRL+F) for “Home” change both instances you’ll find to another unused key name, preferably use the same key for each.
 3. Find Bindings=(Name=“R”,Command=“ReloadCmd”), change “R” to read “Home”

(lexIcon) #15

I also noticed this. I use shift+home to delete text and stuff and every time I push it , it brings up a mini-console instead.

Should’ve known it was just a bind…Thanks for the info qjack!

Grow up, if the only thing you can do is hurl personal insults and use profanity, I think you need to post somewhere else.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

Like I said, I’m not tech savvy, so “spend half the time” would actually be a lot of time.
I hate how in this community its considered acceptable to make fun and verbally berate those members of the community who are less tech savvy then others.
