Maya: Exporting .md3 Models

(lightEngine3d) #1

Hi All,

This is my first attempt at mapping so be gentle  I’ve been working on a map based on the Mittelbau facility for V2 assembly and oddly enough I need to model a V2 rocket (!). I’ve compiled the .md3 file exporter for Maya 5.0 and I can add the ‘misc_model’ within Radiant fine; the problem is one of scale. Is there any way to scale the model once it’s in the map? There is a global scale in the file exporter options but I’d rather adjust this in relation to the map’s features within Radiant.

The other question I had was about a missing model once the compiled map is loaded in ET – this model displays fine in Radiant, with the entity’s path being relative ('models/<myMap>/<myModel>). Any ideas?

Yeah here is the page with the V2 on it right at the bottom,

Good site for tips and everything you need to know really.

Also yes there is a scale button in the menus i know it works on brush work but models i’m not to sure. If you press N when you have your model selected you can add the key drawscale and set that lower and that is another way. I could be talking complete rubbish so try it out for yourself. Also use the search facility on this site to find out more about models and stuff because there is one you should use and ones that don’t show up.

To adjust the scale of a misc_model in radiant, use the “modelscale” key. If you want to know the various keys you can use with an entity in radiant, highlight the entity (misc_model in your case) and press ‘N’.

This brings up a window were you can edit the properties of this entity. The second pane down from the top contains a bunch of text describing how you can customize this entity.

If you select a misc_model, and press ‘N’, you should see information about how to scale the model.
