MAX_PATCH_something or other error when i play map

I know this is prolly to do with the bezier patch terrain that is in my map. I generated it in gtkgensurf to be 4096*4096 units, with 128 extents and bezier patching. Is this too much for the old q3 engine to handle? is there any way i can change the limit with a cvar setting. any suggestions? i might carry on working with it if can be played.

That is definitely your problem. You can either remake it using brushes in gensurf, or use easygen to make it. Patch terrain is a bit of a no-no.

it’s so nice and curvy though, i like the bezier patches, is there any way to make brushes that smooth and rounded
?cheers for reply btw

Nope, all you could do is use phong shading to remove the visual appearance of hard edges (when the map is lit) but the edges are still gonna be hard in terms of walking along them.

Gensurf is not great for making smooth edges, easygen makes it easier to make terrain that at least looks curved even though it’s not

I wish i could use easygen but i’m one of those linux’s and it won’t run in my emulator. i can’t get terragen working either cause the codes been real shoddily put together. so it’s heightmaps and gensurf for me for the moment.
it looks like the atlantic_wall final edition has had it’s bezier curves removed from the beach, the beta had really nice curves and now it looks like he just removed hte patchness in gensurf and went with the straight mesh, why? i thought it looked much nicer before. it ran nicley on my pc as well ( a modest 1.1GHzDuron/GF4mx/400/256DDR etc) so I don’t know why he did it

Just use more triangles in the first screen of easygen, that’s how i did it for the atlantic wall, try 50x50 or 64x64, but don’t use a too high value, because that will make it become laggy (Low fps)
